Through the Fog
One late night, my puppy Fala woke me up noisily because she desperately needed to go
outside. I (immediately) crawled out of bed and clumsily stumbled down the hall. Since we live
out in the country, I cautiously turned on the light on the back porch and (cautiously) peered
outside before letting Fala out. I didn't see anything-anything at all. A dense fog made it
impossible to see more than 10 feet away. Fala (impatiently) whined, so (quickly) I opened the
door. I stepped out onto the porch as Fala impatiently sprinted to the grass. Recently Coyotes
had been spotted in the area, so I wanted to be careful.
Fala was finishing her business when I thought I spotted something in
the fog coming toward her. I couldn't make out a clear shape, but it moved
like a canine and all of a sudden, a gray head with large ears peeked through the mist. My heart
pounded and my stomach lurched and then I felt the blood drain from my face.
“Fala! Come here!" I loudly demanded. She (immediately) obeyed.
(Immediately /quickly) I picked her up, immediately/ quickly ran back into the house, and
(quickly) slammed the glass door shut, heart still pounding. Then the large gray animal (timidly)
stepped timidly onto the porch. It let out a long, soft whimper. A flood of relief washed over me.
It was just a lonely dog desperately looking for a friend.
