Introduction
Big Data and Data Analytics are now a part of the modern world, and it is impossible to make
decisions without them in today’s world for executives and management in different contexts.
These tools are very useful in the healthcare industry especially in improving operations,
customer services and achieving strategic advantage. However, the integration of such
technologies poses a lot of questions on data privacy, security and ethical issues. This report
discusses the importance of big data and data analytics in decision making and identifies the
steps needed to prevent data privacy concerns; especially with reference to wearable health
technology at ClearPath Health Innovations.
Critical Roles of Big Data and Data Analytics in Contemporary
Decision-Making
In the current complex business world, Big Data and Data Analytics are central in helping the
executives and management to make appropriate decisions in different organizational settings.
The use of these tools enables leaders to analyze huge volumes of data which is then converted
into usable information and knowledge that can be used to inform strategies, operations, and
even customers’ experiences. To ClearPath Health Innovations, having data that can be analyzed
and used in decision making will impact the success of personalized health care plans, efficiency
and competitiveness in the market (Aleksi , 2024)
Enhancing Operational Efficiency: Big Data enables organizations to facilitate data
analysis and forecasting of operational patterns with a view of enhancing efficiency. To
ClearPath Health Innovations, the collection, assessment and use of patient information
as well as organizational performance indicators can help in enhancing efficiency, cutting
costs and enhancing service delivery (McKinsey Global Institute, 2011; ACCA Global
(2024).
Personalization and Customer Experience: With the help of Data Analytics, ClearPath
can provide unique opportunities for health and wellness services and products for each
client according to his/her needs based on the data received from the wearable devices. It
will also ensure that clients receive quality services and will be in a position to retain
them in the long run hence boosting profitability (McKinsey Global Institute, 2011).
Strategic Decision-Making: It enables the executives to make informed decisions with
the help of predictive analytics as well as to predict new trends and threats. This
capability is very important in the dynamics of the health sector where timely decisions
can greatly affect the operations of the organization (McKinsey & Company, 2016).
Leadership in Addressing Information Governance, Privacy,
Security, and Ethical Considerations
As the Chief Data Officer (CDO) of ClearPath Health Innovations, one has to provide leadership
on information governance, data protection, and ethical issues. Wearable health technology
brings several data privacy issues that need to be considered keenly (McKinsey & Company,
2016).
Potential Data Privacy Issues:
o Data Sensitivity: Wearable health devices record and store personal health data which
encompasses heart rate, level of activity, and sleep. This data if not well managed can
lead to violation of privacy and in turn loss of clients.
o Data Breaches: The storage and transmission of health data pose a risk of hacking or
data leak, which for ClearPath could lead to legal and reputational losses.
o Informed Consent: It is mandatory for clients to be fully informed on how their data is
going to be used, where it will be stored and who will be allowed to access it. It is crucial
to be consistent with the privacy laws and obtain consent in a clear and transparent
manner to keep the trust of the customers (GDPR Info, 2024).
Addressing Data Privacy Issues:
o Data Encryption: Using effective measures of encryption for data in storage and data in
transit can help reduce chances of access by unauthorized persons (OAIC, 2024).
o Access Controls: Implementing strict access controls guarantee that only those who have
privileges to access the sensitive health data will do so, thus minimizing internal threats
(OAIC, 2024).
o Compliance with Legislation: ClearPath has to abide by different regulations of the
privacy like General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as well as the Australian
Privacy Principles (APPs) that dictates how personal data should be collected, stored and
processed (Aleksi, 2024).
Steps to Take in the Event of a Data Privacy Breach:
o Incident Response Plan: Create and follow a detailed business continuity management
plan with the actions to be taken in the initial phase of an incident, the evaluation of the
breach and informing those involved.
o Notification Obligations: In the event of a data breach, ClearPath should inform its
clients and the necessary authorities immediately as dictated by the law so as to reduce
the impacts of the breach.
o Post-Breach Analysis: Investigate the incident and establish what led to the breach, then
find ways to avoid such incidents in the future. This may require changing the security
measures in place, training employees or altering data management procedures
(McKinsey Global Institute, 2011).
Conclusion
Big Data and Data Analytics have become crucial tools in modern decision-making processes
especially in health care where consumer focus and business performance are major determinants
of success. In as much as wearing health technology is being introduced in the market, it is the
responsibility of the CDO of ClearPath Health Innovations to lead in the protection and ethical
use of health data in the company. ClearPath will, therefore, be able to protect client information
and retain its status as a reliable health and wellness solutions provider since the firm will
conform to the best standards of information management and meet legal requirements.
