In the following questions, a statement of Assertion (A) is followed by a statement of Reason

(R). Choose the correct answer out of the following choices.
(a) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).
(b) Both (A) and (R) are true, but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A).
(c) (A) is true, but (R) is false.
(d) (A) is false, but (R) is correct.
16. Assertion (A) : In a ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶, 𝐷 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐸 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑝𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑜𝑛 𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑠 𝐴𝐵 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐴𝐶 respectively such that
BD = CE. If < 𝐵 =< 𝐶, then DE is not parallel to BC.
Reason (R) : If a line divides any two sides of a triangle in the same ratio, then line must be
parallel to the third side.
𝐴𝐵 𝐴𝐶
17. Assertion (A): In a ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶, 𝑖𝑓 𝐷𝐸||𝐵𝐶 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑠 𝐴𝐵 𝑖𝑛 𝐷 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐴𝐶 𝑖𝑛 𝐸, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑛 = 𝐴𝐸 .
𝐴𝐷
Reason (R) : If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides
in distinct points, then these sides are divided in the same ratio.
18. Read the following and answer the questions given below :
Karamveer a carpenter designs a trapezium ABCD shaped model as shown in which AB||DC and
diagonal AC and BD divides each other in the ratio 1 : 3. Later he find that side AB is three times
the CD. After that he designed various other trapezium shaped model with some other
measurements as mentioned in some questions given below. Help him to determine the
measurements.
(i) In the given model (trapezium shaped) ABCD, AB || DC then find x.

(ii) In all the trapezium shaped model which theorem he is using.

(iii) He designed a quadrilateral ABCD, such that < 1 =< 3 𝑎𝑛𝑑 < 2 =< 4
𝐸𝐶 𝐷𝐸 1
If 𝐴𝐸 = 𝐵𝐸 = 2, and DC = 4 cm then find AB.
OR
Karamveer designed a model as shown below.
Here DE|| BC, AD = 5 cm, BD = 10 cm, AE = 3 cm and CE = 6 cm. If DE = 6 cm then find
BC.
