INSTRUCTION: Use long bond paper or newsprint for your

answers. Make sure to copy the questions, show complete
solutions, and enclose your final answers in a box. PRINT THIS
QUESTIONNAIRE AND ATTACH IT AS THE COVER PAGE OF YOUR
SUBMISSION. Turn it in before the start of our next class—late
submissions will not be accepted.
1. For the forces as shown in the figure compute the magnitude of
the equilibrant. (Answer: R=35.36 N) 4. Determine the resultant moment about point O. (Answer:
Moment Resultant at point O = -1253.55 N-m)

2. The force of 500 N is the resultant of the forces P and 250 N acting
as shown in the figure. Compute the following:
(a) the angle Ө that the 500 N makes with the horizontal,
(b)the value of α; and 5. Each square in the grid is 0.50 m x 0.50 m in dimensions. Force F
(c) the value of P = 2025 N and a force H=1000 N. Find the moments of each force
(Answer: θ=53.130, α=83.160, P=503.79 KN) about the points A, B, C, and D.
Answer:
For the force F,
About Point A: -2,268.83 N-m About Point B: 452.57 N-m
About Point C: 4075.57 N-m About Point D: 2265.92 N-m
For the force H,
About Point A: 949.36 N-m About Point B: -1898.75 N-m
About Point C: -1265.83 N-m About Point D: 1740.51 N-m

3. The block as shown in the figure is acted upon by its weight

W=200 Ib, a horizontal force Q=600 lb, and the pressure P exerted
by the inclined plane. The resultant R of these forces is up and
parallel to the incline thereby sliding the block up to it. Determine
P and R.
(Answer: P=489.9 lb R = 292.82 lb)

and acted upon by three couples as shown. Determine its
resultant moment.
