WORK DONE DURING WEEK-1
(07/11/2023)
1. SETTING THE PREMISE AND TOPIC OF RESEARCH PAPER
Before we got down to collecting responses, our group had several in-depth deliberations about
the topic of the research paper and the discussion of the basic research design it should follow .
We decided to place emphasis on the consumption patterns of the various demographic groups
residing in the village and gain a basic idea of the availability and allotment of resources in the
village. Based on this we devised a comprehensive questionnaire that shed light on the monthly
consumption pattern of essential commodities, healthcare, education and the living standard of
the villagers.
2. COLLECTING RESPONSES
We set a target of collecting 100 responses and divided ourselves into groups such that
gujarati speaking group members led every group. I along with my other colleagues was
involved in the meta data process where we collected information in the school. There
were two schools, out of which one (high school) was closed on account of diwali
vacations. The other school hosted classes 1 to 8 and a separate nursery/creche by the
name of “NavaVartika”. We talked to the teachers present and requested them to fill out
the questionnaire. We learnt about the various amenities the school offers such as smart
learning boards and the digitalised attendance system.
3. INSIGHTS GATHERED
We also collected significant data on the ratio of girls to boys students in each class and
the dropout rates. It was observed that the number of girls dominated that of boys in
lower classes but quite the converse appeared in higher classes. We interacted with
children as they sang their prarthana and showed us around their games and books.
Upon further discussion with teachers, they brought to our notice their concerns about the
limited scope of the syllabus and lack of skilled teaching staff.
