Story Writing

Story writing is the art of expressing ideas, events, or experiences in the form of a narrative
with characters, setting, and a meaningful ending. A story usually moves through
beginning middle climax end.

1. Format of Story Writing


1. Title – Short and suitable.
2. Introduction / Beginning – Introduce characters, setting (time/place), and situation.
3. Plot (Middle) – Develop events, add conflict/problem.
4. Climax – Turning point/highest tension.
5. Conclusion / Ending – Problem solved; moral/message.
2. Elements of a Story

● Characters – People/animals in the story.

● Setting – Time and place.

● Plot – Sequence of events.

● Conflict/Problem – Struggle faced.

● Resolution – How it is [Link]/Moral – Lesson/message.

3. Types of Narration / Perspective


Stories can be written from different points of view:
1. First-Person Narration
o The narrator is a character in the story.

o Uses I, me, my, we.

o Example: “I was walking through the forest when I heard a strange noise…”

2. Second-Person Narration (rare in stories)


o The narrator speaks directly to the reader.

o Uses you.
o Example: “You walk into a dark room and suddenly hear footsteps behind
you.”
3. Third-Person NarrationThe narrator is outside the story.
o Uses he, she, they, the boy, the girl.

o Types:

▪ Third-Person Limited – The narrator knows the thoughts/feelings of


one character only.

▪ Third-Person Omniscient – The narrator knows the thoughts/feelings


of all characters.
Rules of Story Writing(Only for discussion )
Write mostly in past tense.
Keep a logical sequence of events.
Use simple, clear language.
Add dialogues to make it lively.
Do not end abruptly; conclude meaningfully.
Add a title and, if possible, a moral.

● Word limit: 150-200


Sample Story (Only for discussion )
Title: The Brave Little Girl
Once there was a little girl named Meera who lived in a small village near the forest. One
evening, while returning home, she saw smoke coming from her neighbour’s house.
Everyone was shouting for help, but nobody dared to go inside. Meera quickly ran in and
found a small child crying. She picked him up and rushed out safely.
The villagers praised Meera’s courage and the child’s parents blessed her with tears of
gratitude.
Moral: Bravery and presence of mind can save lives.
