WORK CREW
Work crew is a team of volunteer individuals which forms an extensive workforce engaged in a
common job/service task in a Younglife camp. They help in facilitating the program of the camp,
offering hospitality services and other tasks as they may be assigned to them.
Work crew volunteers changes from time to time, hence not a permanent position.
As an extensive workforce, work crew team in a Younglife camp is comprised of the following:
 The speaker of the camp
 The camp manager
 The program team
 The assignment team
 The subordinate team
As hierarchical as it seems, the work crew works in unison keeping in mind that they are all equal, but
with different roles. In this module, we will discuss the roles of each of the above teams.

1. The Speaker
The speaker of the camp is the one who ‘preaches’ in a Younglife club. He/she proclaims the gospel of
Christ to the teenagers in a Younglife camp. The speaker gives the message to the teenagers in a manner
they all will understand and not get bored.
Roles of a speaker
 Gives message from the gospel of Christ in a club.
 Provides questions for teenagers to answer with their leaders while in their respective cabins.
 Leads the teenagers to give their lives to Christ.
 Provides spiritual guidance to the program team, camp manager, cabin leaders and other willing
individuals.
 Leads the scripture readings in the leaders meeting, twice (or more) per day.
 Intercedes for the camp.

2. The camp manager
As the name suggest, the camp manager oversees all activities being done at a Younglife camp. He/she is the
main person in charge of everything. He/she supervises all works and commits most of his/her time in
making sure all goes well.

Roles of the camp manager


 Oversees all activities undertaken by all teams.
 Supervises all teams in their work place.
 Leads the leaders meeting in the morning and evening
 Leads the work crew meetings and war room every day.
 Responsible for all items in the camp site.
 Assigns and reassigns individuals to various tasks when need be.
 Takes the whole number of people in the camp; responsible for all camp statistics at ground.
 Responsible for the state of all rooms and accommodation.
 Responsible for the well being of each and every person in the camp.
 Ensures meals are ready on time, and enough for everyone.
 Ensures the camp site is in a good state; the fields and all building structures
 Other roles as may be assigned by the regional director

3. The assignment team


This is the team which helps in various way, either on a professional level, or as assigned by the camp
manager of the regional director. Their roles may vary according to the needs of the camp at any particular
time. They, however, have their main roles in a Younglife camp. They are comprised of:
 The cameraman. Ensures the right videos and pictures are captured.
 Logistics coordinator; who may take up the role of camp coordinator – coordinating between the
camp manager and the office, items required in a certain camp and ensuring all items are bought
beforehand. He/she is in charge of camp logistics.
 Music team – comprised of praise and worship team and club entry mixer songs lead singer.
Their main roles are tied during the club time; but may have different roles as may be assigned by the
camp manager.
 The music system team- comprised of the Mcee, Deejay and the system controller. They are
responsible for entertainment at all needed times. They ensure the music system is at the right place
at the right time.

4. The program team
This is the team in charge of the camp program. They come up; in liaison with other teams, with the
activities to be done during the camp period and the timing of each and every activity. They control all
activities done in the camp.
The program team is made up of not more than 3 individuals, with each assigned to a specific task to ease
work load. The roles are assigned as follows:
 P1 – in charge of all club activities and requirements as well as the state of the club room.
 P2 – in charge of all outdoor field games and outlook.
 P3 – in charge of club room, cubes, outdoor and dining hall decorations and entertainment scenes.
There must be a program leader to lead and coordinate all activities between them and other teams.

Roles of the program team


 Runs the entire camp program with the help of other teams.
 Comes up with the camp budget beforehand.
 Comes up with all outdoor field games as well as arrangement of the field during games time
 Provides educative - laughter centered club skit and funny upfront games.
 Responsible for the training of the subordinate team.
 Responsible for entire camp site decorations.
 Takes charge in leading the welcoming of teenagers and their leaders.
 Responsible for “way of doing things” during the camp. This includes creative ways of doing
activities to create WHIF and WHIS.
 Reads out the day’s program during leaders meeting.
 Leads the subordinate team.
 Responsible for administering order amongst teenagers.
 Any other role as may be assigned by the regional director

Roles of the program team leader


 Attends the war room every morning.
 Ensures all games materials, club skit attires, decoration and upfront games items are at hand.
 Ensures the subordinate crew is divided into three groups (KDH, ODC and H&H).
 Ensure the club skit and upfront games are ready, and good for the teenagers.
 Ensures the games MAP and field games FIXTURES are ready beforehand.
 Attends or assigns another person to attend leaders’ meetings every morning and evening.
 Reads out camp rules to the camp participants (if the camp manager isn’t present)
 Takes the role of the camp manager in his/her absentia.

5. The subordinate crew.
Commonly referred to as the main “work crew”. They are basically the most important crew of the work
crew, mainly because of the work they do. They report to various leaders but do most of the work in camps.
They are the backbone of the success of every camp. Some of the things that make them unique are:

The stay up to late night and are the first ones to wake up in the morning.
They are everywhere, because they have to, to make sure the teenagers get the very best from them.
They are the last to eat.
Despite the huge work load rested on them, they always carry a smile on their faces.
They are volunteers!
They help in camp interceding.
The work crew are divided into three major departments, with each department having its leader:
 K.D.H
 O.D.C
 H&H
Below are the main significant roles of each of the above department:
K.D.H
This department is responsible for the well state of the KITCHEN & the DINING HALL, hence the name
K.D.H
Roles of K.D.H
 Cleaning of the kitchen and the Dining hall once a day.
 Preparing the dining set – arranging of tables and chairs in a creative way.
 Decorating the dining hall.
 Washing the utensils after every meal.
 Preparing table kits and tags.
 Help in serving food during meal times.
 Help in running of field games when need be.
 Welcoming the teenagers with their leaders to the dining hall.
 Providing hospitality services every time if occasion arises.
 Making sure there is enough water circulation on the field during games time.
 Any other role as may be assigned by the department leader, program leader or the camp manager.

O.D.C
O.D.C stands for Out Door Crew. They are involved in making sure every place outside is clean and
attractive. Their places of work include the field, paths outside and any usable building within the main field.

Roles of O.D.C
 Cleaning and clearing the main field every morning.
 Washing the field washrooms as well as any other washrooms outside dorms twice per day.
 Cleaning all the usable paths every morning.
 Decorating the field and all usable paths within reach by using banners and ribbons or any other
decorative items. Maintaining them is also a daily task.
 Setting the club room. This includes setting the Centre stage, setting the deejay’s place, and
decorating the whole room. Remember, this is the place where teenagers give their lives to Christ.
 Setting leaders meeting place. This includes cleaning the place and arranging the seats twice per day.
 Cleaning the club room twice per day. Ensuring the decorations too are in good state, and the club
stage is tidy and strong.
 Clearing the dustbins twice a day.
 Preparing the main field as per program’s team requests. This might be setting the football goal posts,
marking the grounds for athletics or for team building games.
 Ensuring the music system is at the right place and time. Music system is mainly used in club room,
dining hall and during field games and welcoming. The O.D.C team ought to ensure it is well set up
and it is functioning well.
 Act as the patrol team. They help in bringing about order in camps especially in the evening.
 Setting and maintaining the prayer’s chamber every day.

H&H
The Housing and Hospitality crew mainly focuses on cabin room/dorms and their washrooms.

Roles of H & H
 Cleaning and setting the dorms every day, during day time.
 Decorating the rooms with creative simple ideas and putting name tags for easy locating of rooms by
cabin teams.
 Ensure proper sanitation around the washrooms.
 Helping in medical aid.
 In charge of all rooms, ensuring teenagers items are secured and safe.

Roles of a department leader.


 Leads by example.
 Attends the war room every morning.
 Sets and chairs the departments meeting every day.
 Supervises the departments tasks.
 Requests the departments needs and is in charge of items entrusted to them.
 Reports any unusual activity, passive individuals and recommends best solutions of the challenges
faced to the camp manager.
 Assigns and reassigns individuals of his/her team as situation requires.

Common roles of the subordinate crew – work crew.


 Serving meals.
 Interceding for the camp.
 Maintaining order amongst teenagers.
 Moderating field games.
