OVERVIEW

Brief Description of the Subject / Introduction:

This course aims to train students on the application of statistical methods (summarizing data and drawing valid inferences based on limited information) to
biological systems. This course deals with statistical concepts and terminology and basic analytic techniques.

Learning Objectives :

Students will be taught the fundamental concepts in the design and analysis of biomedical studies, including the difference between observational and
experimental studies, the unit of randomization in randomized studies, the comparability of the control group or control population, and adjustment for
confounding. They will explain the logic behind statistical confidence intervals and hypothesis tests.

overall 40% is required for a pass.

Attendance requirement 80% attendance is mandatory to be eligible for examination.

Course Requirements

Component 1: 50% weight

It has two sub components

Part A: Term Test: 25% Weight

Part B: Assignment: 25% Weight

Term Test 1 to be conducted in the 6th week and Term Test 2 to be conducted during 12th week for 25 marks each. Best of the 2 will be considered as score
for CE. One word processed assignment to be submitted during 14th week for 50 marks reduced to 25 marks.

Component 2: 50% weight

A 3 hour duration semester end examination will be conducted for maximum marks of 100 and will be reduced to 50% weight.

The assessment questions are set to test the learning outcomes. In each component certain learning outcomes are assessed. The above table illustrates the
focus of learning outcome in each component assessed.

OVERVIEW

Brief Description of the Subject / Introduction:

This course aims to train students on the application of statistical methods (summarizing data and drawing valid inferences based on limited information) to
biological systems. This course deals with statistical concepts and terminology and basic analytic techniques.

Learning Objectives :

Students will be taught the fundamental concepts in the design and analysis of biomedical studies, including the difference between observational and
experimental studies, the unit of randomization in randomized studies, the comparability of the control group or control population, and adjustment for
confounding. They will explain the logic behind statistical confidence intervals and hypothesis tests.

Attendance requirement 80% attendance is mandatory to be eligible for examination.

It has two sub components

Part A: Term Test: 25% Weight

Part B: Assignment: 25% Weight

Term Test 1 to be conducted in the 6th week and Term Test 2 to be conducted during 12th week for 25 marks each. Best of the 2 will be considered as score
for CE. One word processed assignment to be submitted during 14th week for 50 marks reduced to 25 marks.

Component 2: 50% weight

A 3 hour duration semester end examination will be conducted for maximum marks of 100 and will be reduced to 50% weight.

The assessment questions are set to test the learning outcomes. In each component certain learning outcomes are assessed. The above table illustrates the
