NIT Rourkela

Chemistry Department
A Comprehensive Overview
ABOUT NIT ROURKELA
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela
is a premier technical institute of national
importance. Established in 1961, NIT Rourkela has
evolved into a leading institution for engineering,
science, and technology education and research in
India. The institute offers a wide range of
undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral
programs across various disciplines. NIT Rourkela
is committed to providing quality education, fostering
innovation, and promoting research and
development to meet the evolving needs of society.
ABOUT
CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
Chemistry is a fundamental science that studies the nature,
properties, composition, and interactions of matter.
Traditionally divided into organic, inorganic, and physical
chemistry, it now extends into diverse subfields such as
environmental, analytical, industrial, green, bio-, and
nanochemistry, catalysis, and biophysical chemistry.

The Department of Chemistry at NIT Rourkela is equipped

with advanced instruments including NMR, ESI-MS, surface
area analyzer, FTIR, UV-Vis, HPLC, potentiostat/galvanostat,
and fluorescence spectrometer. Its research focuses on areas
like environmental chemistry, organic synthesis, natural
products, organometallics, metal clusters, nanomaterials,
organic-inorganic hybrids, coordination chemistry, biophysical
and computational chemistry, catalysis, spectroscopy, and
nano-biomaterials.
HOD’s Message
It gives me immense pleasure to present the students of the
Department of Chemistry, National Institute of Technology Rourkela,
to esteemed organizations for recruitment. Our department is
committed to nurturing young minds with strong fundamentals in
Chemistry, combined with practical skills and research exposure in
diverse fields such as inorganic, organic, physical, analytical,
Prof. Garudadhwaj materials, environmental, and computational chemistry.
Hota
Our students undergo rigorous academic training, hands-on
(HOD) laboratory experience, and industry-oriented projects, which prepare
0661-2462651 (HOD) them to take on challenging roles in research, academia, and
0661-2462655 (Off) industry. I am confident that they will contribute significantly to the
hod-cy@[Link] growth of any organization they join, bringing with them dedication,
innovation, and professionalism.

I warmly invite recruiters to engage with our talented students and

explore fruitful collaborations.
