SSVF Checklist – Genuine Student Statement
Ministerial Direction 106 (Genuine Students) requires applicants to have circumstances that support a genuine
intention to obtain a quality education in Australia; to demonstrate both circumstances and a commitment to
study, that support the ability to achieve their stated educational outcome.
The GS criterion focuses on the assessment of the student’s intention to genuinely study in Australia,
considering factors including the applicants:
Circumstances
Immigration history
Compliance with visa conditions and any other relevant matter.
The GS Statement is intended to include students who, after studying in Australia, develop skills Australia needs
and who then go on to apply for permanent residence.
This document is required for the Genuine Student assessment by Federation University to
determine your status as a genuine student against the criteria in the Department of Home Affairs,
Ministerial Direction 106 and 108.
It is critical you provide evidence to support your claims to your responses below. Generic statements
unsupported by evidence are not given significant weight in the GS assessment.
This information and certified evidence may also be required of your sponsor/s to ensure that you have genuine
access to the funds to support your studies. Federation University is required to assess these requirements prior
to issuing you a CoE.
You must include the information provided in this document, and all certified evidence you provided to
Federation during your GS assessment, in your visa application. Although we cannot provide advice regarding
the visa requirements, step by step instructions regarding visa lodgement are listed on the Department of Home
Affairs. The online document checklist tool advises students about the documents they need to provide with
their student visa application based on their combined country and education provider evidence level outcomes.
Provide genuine responses in your own words.
Do not copy information from websites.
Ensure that you complete, sign and date the declaration at the bottom of the document.
