GENERAL

A correct ventilation is necessary to keep the operating

temperatures within the required limits and enable an adequate
operation of the engine.

The engine compartment is divided into two zones by the fire wall
located at the forward end of the engine core case.

Some equipment have their own ventilation (AC generator and

DC generator/starter).

The engine environment ventilation is provided by the air

activated by the venturi effect of the engine jet.

Hot air from intercompressor bleed valve and low pressure

compressor shroud bleed (P2 air) , is discharged outboard of
nacelle.

COOLING
VENTILATION IN ZONE 1

Zone 1 is the fire zone comprising the engine, the reduction

gearbox, the equipment and accessories installed in the
accessory gearbox.

The air inlet in that zone is provided by two lateral scoops and
one upper scoop.

Cooling and ventilation air outlet is provided at level of engine

exhaust by the venturi effect of the engine jet.

The purpose of ventilation in this zone is to maintain temperature

at 120°C (248°F).

At engine shutdown, a transient temperature of 150°C can be

tolerated for no more than 2 mn.

VENTILATION OF ZONE 2

Zone 2 is adjacent to the fire zone and comprises two sub-zones

separated by semi-sealed walls.

The sub-zones are as follows:

Zone 2 : aft of the engine fire, comprising the slat area between
engine and fuselage, the fillet area between wing and fuselage
and the cavity ensuring ventilation of underwing box forward
frame.

The air inlet in that zone is provided by a scoop located in the

upper rear cowl.

The air outlet for that zone is provided by two inverted scoops at
the outlet of the cavity (ensuring ventilation of the frame) and by a
hole located in leading edge upper surface, at wing-to-fuselage
fillet.

Zone 2A : is delimited by the underwing box, aft of the engine

nacelle.

Air comes into that zone through a passage leading from zone 2.

Air is discharged out of the zone through an outlet located in the

aft lower section of the underwing box, opposite to the inlet.

The dimension of that ventilation zone is designed to enable air

renewal every 2 mn.

AC GENERATOR VENTILATION

AC generator ventilation is provided by the air bled from zone 1

and ducted by a casing attached to the AC generator.

This air flows from the rear to the front part of the AC generator.

DC STARTER/GENERATOR VENTILATION

The air inlet is provided by a scoop located in the lateral opening

cowl.

The air outlet is provided by a duct opening on this cowl.

INTERCOMPRESSOR BLEED VALVE AIR DISCHARGE

To avoid heat accumulation in zone 1, hot air from

intercompressor bleed valve (HBV) is discharged outboard of
nacelle via an articulated duct assembly.

shroud bleed air (P2 air) is discharged outboard of nacelle via an
articulated duct assembly.
