A. Welcome
Well done! You found this guide in which I have compiled a long and growing list of free
resources to help you prepare for your business & consulting online tests.
I am Jack, I spent five years as a Consultant and Project Manager at McKinsey and now
serve as an independent management adviser, continuing to thrive in my passion. I have
crafted this document to help you to get a significant step closer to your dream job, too!
I update this guide regularly (v25 at present ;-) ). If you got this guide from somewhere
else and would like to obtain the most recent version, sign up to my YOUinConsulting
newsletter, after which you can download it immediately and for free:
https://www.youinconsulting.com/newsletter/
If you have not yet done so, for a win-win consider subscribing to my YOUinConsulting
YouTube channel for my regular top-quality business and career advice:
https://www.youtube.com/YOUinConsulting?sub_confirmation=1
I always aim to provide top-quality content in both my long-form YouTube videos as well
as my further resources, which is hard work! For the moment, I do not publish short-form
video content on TikTok or IG, because I believe – especially during your job application
cycles – you should keep your time spent on those platforms at a minimum and I do not
want to aid your distraction. This however raises the challenge to make people aware of
what YOUinConsulting has to offer. Therefore, if you like this guide and some of my
videos, please spread the word (and links to YT videos that you like!).
If you like to share a feedback on this guide or your test experiences, want to suggest to
me an idea how to spread the word about YOUinConsulting or if you would just like to say
“thank you” :-), happily send me a message to [email protected] , or hit me up on
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joergleib/ .
In the following, find my advice and resources on your online test preparation as well as
some final notes at the end of this guide. Good luck for your test preparation – and tests!

I offer comprehensive advice on how to tackle the currently three SOLVE games in my
McKinsey PSG playlist, which videos you ought to watch (especially the first seven videos):
McKinsey SOLVE (2025): Master the 3 McKinsey Problem Solving Games (PSG) |
Complete Playlist
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7UpXLcJ4Sw&list=PLO4rGtv4Tn0TQ3hW_Y8PDh81oGYPIqCqV
The first video presents a brief overview of the SOLVE assessment. In the next three videos
of the playlist, I reveal the winning strategies for you on how to excel in your ecosystem
game. Furthermore, I equip you with an entire (!) ecosystem mock game sceanario for you
to apply your learnings and practice. Just like in the actual McKinsey ecosystem game, you
will have to build a sustainable food chain from 8 species you need to select from the 39
species dealt to you and choose a suitable location for your ecosystem so that your 8
species can survive together.
In videos five and and six I take you through the Investigation, Analysis and Report Phases
of the Redrock Study, and I have again prepared a series of interactive Redrock Study
practice questions for you.
In video seven of the playlist, I break down for you McKinsey’s new Sea Wolf Game and
how to tackle it.
If you want you can also take a look the last video on the playlist (video no 10: “SOLVE:
How to master the McKinsey Digital Assessment (Imbellus)”), at the beginning of which I
explain to you the “hidden reasons” why and how McKinsey is using the SOLVE game as a
black box and tool to filter you out as a candidate. Its first 13 minutes are still highly
relevant, while the rest of the video introducing the earlier McKinsey SOLVE games and
solution strategies is outdated.
While the PSG assignment is peculiar, it is safe to assume that McKinsey still seeks to
identify the same qualities in its candidates as before. The good news is that for
preparation for McKinsey’s former Problem Solving Test (PST) assignment, McKinsey has
over the years provided many high-quality mock tests.
In my view, these PST mock tests provide the best free resource to prepare for the second
part (“Cases”) of the Redrock Study, where you will find a similar set of quantitative trap
questions. While questions of the PST type do not anymore explicitly appear in the SOLVE
games, practicing these free PST mock tests might still help you to hone the type of
analytical skills McKinsey (and the other top consulting firms) seek in their candidates:

If you cannot retrieve these mock tests upon clicking on these links and/or get a “page not
found” error, instead copy-paste the links manually to your browser and hit return. Also,
I have sometimes trouble accessing these mock tests through google chrome – through
Microsoft Edge, I can access all five mock tests easily. All five links lead to pdf files.
I also offer another interactive training session drawing on a McKinsey PST mock test (“Fiji
Cola”) in the second half of my video on the BCG Online Case (from minute 20:33, section
“BCG Online Case: interactive training” in the video’s table of content).

Watching my PSG video tutorials and making use of these free mock test materials will
already provide you with a significant advantage – this knowledge is power!
If you want to pass the McKinsey PSG safely and are committed to doing whatever it takes
to safely reach the McKinsey interview stage, I nowadays recommend this professional
McKinsey SOLVE prepkit and simulation package offered by a third-party provider, which
I have thoroughly reviewed for you and now endorse:
https://solve-psg.youinconsulting.com/
-4- https://www.youinconsulting.com/
A video guide on McKinsey’s Plant Defense Game
150+ pages pdf guide on the current and past McKinsey SOLVE games
I suggest you to go through all materials of the Combo package for your optimal
preparation, with the exception of the Plant Defense Game module: This game stopped
appearing in early 2023, hence rather spend your time on preparing for the other games.
The video courses on the Ecosystem Game and the Redrock Study have been completely
re-created and re-recorded in 2024. The video course module on the novel Sea Wolf Game
is brandnew and has added in 2025.
The Ecosystem Game simulation comes with three complete Ecosystem Game
scenarios/simulations for your practice, in which the real test experience (user
interface, time limit, etc) is emulated as close as possible
Each of the three scenarios comes with a distinct challenge, preparing you for the
nastiest ecosystem game scenarios that can appear…
I suggest you use these scenarios to familiarize yourself with how to best use &
leverage the Excel Solver, so that you can run through your actual SOLVE
Ecosystem Game in the fastest-possible speed!
Each of the three scenario is accompanied by a complete video solution guide,
revealing the scenarios’ solutions to you in case you get stuck as well as describing
the optimal solution strategies
The Redrock Study simulation comes with a complete Redrock Study Game
scenario, in which you are confronted with a tough, complete and timed Redrock
Study scenario (covering both its initial Study as well as the second Cases part)
On each of the Redrock Study test questions, you are provided with extensive
written answer/solution guides
You can use this simulation as the starting point of your Redrock Study preparation
to assess where you stand, or for the final touch before you “get real”!
Even for the brandnew Sea Wolf Game, there already exists a fully-fledged
simulation to practice it
Complete solution guide with explanations
You can go through these materials in half a day, but that is very intense! I recommend
you to rather distribute your preparation time over an entire day of two half-days.
-5- https://www.youinconsulting.com/
The test provider reports that about ~90% of the prepkit users pass the McKinsey SOLVE
Game and get advanced to the interview stage. This is outstanding, given only ~1-2% of
applicants get accepted by McKinsey.
The best is: The test provider offers you a 100% money-back guarantee. Every candidate
who has purchased this toolkit and did not pass the SOLVE assignment gets their money
back, that means you only pay when you pass! As a consequence, you do not pay for
better odds, but only for actually passing the PSG and for being advanced to the interview
stage safely.
For those of you who decide to get the PSG simulation package, this is my
recommendation on how to leverage the prep materials most effectively to get ready for
the PSG the fastest:
Also, flip through the 150+ pages pdf guide to complement your knowledge.
After taking these steps, you should surely be ready to go!! Go through the other materials
provided in the bundles, too, if you have more time available. I just tried to explain which
elements are my recommended must-watch / not-to-be-missed ones!
Finally, after you have passed the PSG, celebrate and rock the interviews!! If you do not
pass the PSG, claim your money for this PSG prepkit back from the mock test provider.
Good luck!
- Do not read this section before you have watched the part III video, as it includes
spoilers on your Ecosystem Game mock scenario! -
As announced in my Part III video tutorial, in the following you find further information
and data on the ecosystem bundle C’s and A’s setups:
In the video, it was shown that the three producers – Meadow Weed, Orange Drifter
Sponge and Azure Coral – and the five animals Flat Pilgrim Crab, Giant Octopus, Rogue
Clownfish, Sling Sea Turtle and Velvet Mussel together form a sustainable food chain with
eight surviving species.
There are further solutions feasible within this bundle. For instance, Giant Octopus could
be replaced by Marble Meat Worm.
It turns out that no sustainable food chain can be achieved that includes Spiral Sea
Slug
In order to obtain a sustainable food chain, Rogue Clownfish and Velvet Mussel must
both be selected. You can easily verify this if you enter the ecosystem bundle C species
into the Excel Solver, and then pretend that either Rogue Clownfish or Velvet Mussel
had no food sources. In this case, the Solver will detect that no sustainable food chain
can be built from the remaining species in the pool
Yellow Grouper is a non-usable animal, since it needs more calories than any of its
potential food sources can provide.
-7- https://www.youinconsulting.com/
Ecosystem bundle A:
This ecosystem bundle was not discussed in the video tutorial, since compared to the
other two ecosystem bundles, its three producers producers provide the least amount of
calories. The lower the sum of calories provided by the producers, the less likely it is that
they can sustain a sustainable food chain.
If you want to analyze the ecosystem bundle A yourself, in the following I provide you with
the two slides containing its three producers and ten animals:
-8- https://www.youinconsulting.com/
Indeed, if you run the Excel Solver on the ecosystem bundle A, you will find that it detects
that no sustainable food chain can be built from these 13 species. The main reason for
that is the weakish-looking producer “White Sea Fern”, which provides just 3100 calories.
White Sea Fern is eaten by four animals, but its provided calories fall below the calories
needed of these four predators.
This implies that the food chain would need to be “carried” by just two producers (Canopy
Zoanthid and Cylinder Kelp). In this ecosystem bundle, they do not manage to provide
enough calories for the other species to be included – either a producer or animal dies.

Companies and organizations that ask their applicants to take an SHL test include: Amazon,
AstraZeneca, Axis Bank, Bank of America, Barclays, Bombardier, Bristol-Myers Squibb, British Airways,
British Telecom (BT), Campari, CapitalOne, Caterpillar, CiscoCosta Crociere Group, County of Riverside
(California) Superior Court, Cundall, Denver City and County, Deutsche Bank, Dublin Airport Authority,
Ecolab, Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), Genea Fertility, Generali, GKN Aerospace,
-9- https://www.youinconsulting.com/
The most common SHL test that you will face during the first rounds of your job recruiting
process is the SHL General Ability test. It draws on the same questions as the SHL
Numerical Reasoning, Deductive Reasoning and Inductive Reasoning tests, which
occasionally also appear separately. Hence, if you want to prepare for the SHL General
Ability test, you need to prepare for its three subcomponents (numerical, deductive &
inductive reasoning).
I have created what I believe is the most in-depth video tutorial on the SHL test(s) available
to this day:
SHL Test: Complete Guide | General Ability; Numerical, Deductive & Inductive
Reasoning; Verify G+
https://youtu.be/7TaMxEXA5t4
In this interactive practice video tutorial, I offer you a brief introduction to the SHL
company background and explain to you how your SHL test results are used during your
recruiting process. Then, I make you aware that currently two versions of the General
Ability (also called: Verify G+ Assessment) & numerical/deductive/inductive reasoning
tests exist: The newer “interactive” version contains more difficult questions than the
“older-fashioned” standard multiple-choice version. In the video tutorial, I try to help you
find out which of the two test versions you take so that you can prepare most effectively.
Then I take you through the 13 question types you will find in the interactive General
Ability test, namely the 5 numerical test type questions, the 5 deductive test type
questions and the 3 inductive test type questions that exist and that you need to prepare
for. For each question type, I invite you to practice it yourself and then present to you the
solution and my tips on the most effective solution strategies.
In my video (after minute 5:54) I present to you an example SHL General Ability test report
that a company may receive from SHL once you have completed your test. Subject to the
choice made by your target employer, SHL may also send you a candidate report. If you
like to view these example reports, you can find them here:
Glanbia Performance Nutrition, Heineken, Honeywell, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, KBC Bank, Kärcher,
Microsoft, Nationwide Building Society, Navitasys, NHS University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, Nokia,
Royal Navy, Safaricom, SASRI, Smith & Nephew, Sonic Automotive, Stanley Black & Decker, Sunderland
City Council, T-Mobile, The Adecco Group, UL Solutions, Under Armour, University of Stellenbosch
Business School, Valmet, Vodafone, Wes, Wills Group.
- 10 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
At minute 47:08 of the video, I introduce you to SHL’s own free practice materials that it
offers for candidates. They are not easy to find on the SHL website; you can access them
here:
https://www.shl.com/shldirect/en/practice-tests/
At the moment, SHL lists there 19 mock test modules. Do do not get too excited over them
though :-D, I have checked them out all for you and figured only three of them are relevant
for you if you need to take the General Ability test (or one of the three reasoning tests) in
its newer, interactive version (original SHL links):
These three assessments are timed, and they present a suitable opportunity for you to
familiarize yourself with SHL’s interactive “drag&drop” features. However, I unfortunately
found the mock questions in these three modules significantly easier than those
appearing in the “real” SHL tests, so they can serve as a practice resource only to a limited
extent. On the top of the website, SHL indeed itself warns: “The practice assessments
below do not attempt to provide you with an exact experience of the assessments you
may be asked to complete”. Furthermore, you are not given any information on whether
or not your answers are correct, and no advice on solution strategies is given.
I have also checked the “Standard Multiple-Choice” mock test modules for numerical,
deductive and inductive reasoning. I advise not to bother with them if you know that you
need to take an interactive test version, as the questions are way too easy. If you need to
take the older test (non-interactive) test version, you can risk a look, but I would not rely
on them exclusively for practicing your skills.
Be aware that even if you create an SHL account (maybe use a different email address
than that you use in your applications), for each mock test module you want to take, SHL
asks you the same series of questions on your demographic background. Also, you can
take each mock test only once.
If you have gone through my video tutorial and have had a go at the 13 example questions
I take you through and still feel you ought to practice more, then I recommend you to
check out this (paid) resource:
I used this test package extensively for preparing my tutorial video for (12 of the 13 mock
questions I present to you stem from this kit). At present, it contains 160 (!) interactive-
type test questions and more than 400 (!) “old-school” non-interactive test questions for
your preparation (more on this at minute 51:02 of my video)! For each (!) question, an
extensive solution guide is provided. All General Ability, Numerical, Deductive and
Inductive Reasoning test modules are timed – in the same (!) way as the real SHL tests –
and the mock questions are challenging. Once you have gone through these mock tests,
I believe you will be well-prepared to succeed at your SHL test!
In case that, for your job applications, you need to take more than “just” the SHL test
(namely: the Pymetrics test, the Talent-Q / Korn Ferry assessment, the Aon (cut-e)
assessment AND/OR the Cappfinity test), check out if it is more economical for you to get
this bundle of five mock test simulations, which includes the entire SHL mock test
simulations as one of the five:

In order to help you prepare for the BCG Online Case (or the Casey Chatbot Interview), as
a first step, internalize my in-depth video tutorials:
BCG Online Case (2025): Complete Guide & Practice Questions | Casey chatbot
interview
https://youtu.be/8mf5MC00XCs

BCG Online Case Experience (Casey) — How to master the chatbot interview:
https://youtu.be/wO4tuFrJ3yM
In the first video tutorial (from 2025), I take you through the 6 question types of the BCG
Online Case in its current shape and invite you to practice them interactively.
The second video tutorial (from 2021), surprisingly, is still mostly up to date. In its
second part (starting from minute 21:00), I also take you through a consulting mock test
for an interactive training session
Compared to McKinsey, BCG has been less generous with distributing official free test
preparation materials. For the preparation of its former BCG Potential Test (predecessor
to the Casey chatbot interview) that is not anymore in use, BCG provided this mini mock
test, whose format however is very different from the current Casey chatbot format!
http://media-publications.bcg.com/BCG-Online-Case-Example.pdf
For many years, BCG used to offer (I believe accidentally!) a free and official BCG Online
Case Experience practice to anyone browsing to this link:
https://impress.ai/html-widget/chat-widget/5290cce9-2748-4823-aebd-0809804e24b6/
I always believed that was a glitch and this practice test should be accessed only by actual
BCG applicants. Unfortunately and indeed, this glitch was closed by BCG in 2024, and now
you need to log in with your details as an applicant… Still, take a brief look to familiarize
yourself with the Casey interface.
Since 2021, the test developer company that has developed the BCG Online Case for BCG
also offered a free mock BCG Online Case on its website, which I used to recommend
through this kit. Unfortunately, their website is down currently. They also offered
additional commercial Online Case mock tests, which have become unavailable as well.
However, I reviewed their products once again in late 2024 and found that they had not
updated their mock tests since 2021, making them an outdated resource by now. I am
going to reach out to them to investigate if they have any intention to restore their website
and their free mock BCG Online Case; for now, this learning resource unfortunately is
gone.
Undoubtedly, the best professional BCG Online Case prepkit for passing the BCG Online
Case is:
https://onlinecase.youinconsulting.com/
I have reviewed this resource in depth in early 2025 and have verified that it is
continuously updated and extended. It comes with:
A ~100 page pdf guide with insider tips on how to master the BCG Online Case
Two complete mock BCG Online Cases in a pen & paper format for practice
- 13 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
Four complete and interactive BCG Online Cases, or Casey chatbot Interviews, as
perfect simulations of your actual BCG Online Case experience
Complete solution guides on each mock questions of the six mock BCG Online
Cases
Simulations of the BCG Online Case video interview components
Additionally, an old BCG Potential mock test with further 23 mock questions to
practice with and a graphical analysis toolkit
Optionally, you can add two more BCG Online Case chatbot interviews to your
bundle
You can also add a perfect simulation of the BCG Pymetrics test and its 12
Pymterics games to your bundle. Only add it after you have verified you actually
need to take the BCG (or Bain) Pymetrics test, too!
I have witnessed that this professional prepkit gets continuously updated and extended,
so by the time you check it, you may discover additional components.
Most importantly and a key reason why I recommend this professional BCG Online Case
prepkit is that you only need to pay if you actually do pass the BCG Online Case! In case
you fail the assessment, you can claim your money back and get a 100% refund!!! This is
a not a joke and I have verified it is happening; while most users of the professional prepkit
pass the test, those who do not do receive a refund.
BCG Online Tests in 2025: CCA, Cognitive Test, Math Assessment & BCG Online Case
https://youtu.be/ZVQCqqjrQk4
How many online tests you need to pass before you get advanced to the interview stage
depends on the BCG office(s) you apply to. Some insights you can find here:
BCG UK + “international”:
https://careers.bcg.com/global/en/locations/united-kingdom/advanced-degree
BCG Germany/Austria: https://careers.bcg.com/global/en/bewerbungsprozess-germany-
austria
However, I always recommend to reach out to your local recruiter to clarify the steps of
your recruiting process before you submit your application, so that you know which online
assessments you need to prepare for and also have an idea of their timing.
- 14 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
E.2 BCG Potential Test
The BCG Potential Test is an outdated test format that is currently not anymore in use by
any BCG office, therefore I do not cover it in here.
Be aware (and prepared!) that BCG may demand you to take the Pymetrics test within 48
hours of submitting your application!
Most challenging is the Math quiz part. The good news is that, as per my current
knowledge, the Math quiz module of the CCA is provided by the SHL company, and it most
probably draws on the modules of SHL’s General Ability Test.
On the General Ability Test with its numerical, inductive and deductive reasoning
questions I have made a dedicated and popular video tutorial, in which I take applicants
through the 13 SHL test question types to be expected.
Hence I believe if you want to spend some time on preparing for the Math quiz part of
your CCA, I suggest watch my SHL test tutorial and go at least through the free SHL test
prep modules I have uncovered for you (see SHL test section in this prepkit).
I could uncover that the BCG Cognitive Test matches the People Test Logic (PTL) exam of
Danish test provider company People Test Systems (PTS):
https://peopletestsystems.com/en/test-tools/people-test-logic/
- 15 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
Unfortunately, PTS does not offer much information on this test, and I have neither been
able to identify specific practice opportunities for this test. While I believe the questions
of this test are not that difficult, the challenge is posed by the heavy time constraint of just
22.5 seconds by question!
Some further information as well as complete simulations of the Cognitive Test / PTL
however are available from here: https://cognitive-test.youinconsulting.com/
The video is run on the SparkHire platform, which has compiled a dedicated how-to guide
to candidates: https://www.sparkhire.com/candidates
Unfortunately, there is nothing said about the specifics of the test structure. If you want
to prepare for the BCG Math Assessment, I suggest that you check out my SHL test section
in this prepkit and take a close look at least at the numerical reasoning test questions as
part of SHL’s General Ability test.

The Pymetrics test comes in the disguise of 12 Pymetrics games, each of them posing a
unique challenge. One of the main problems of the Pymetrics test is that candidates are
not offered tutorials before or during the test. The test wants to push you into cold water
and see if you get the games right the first and only time you play them. Learning about
the games AND how to tackle them strategically in advance to the test therefore offers a
HUGE advantage. For this reason, I explain the purpose of the Pymetrics test, offer a
complete walkthrough & strategy guide through all 12 Pymetrics games as well as share
my overall advice on how to prepare for the Pymetrics test in this hallmark :-) video
explainer:
Pymetrics test (BCG, Bain, JP Morgan, Blackstone): How to master the 12 Pymetrics
games | Full guide
https://youtu.be/mnIqTjN9f0E
Once you have watched the video, you will be significantly better prepared than
candidates with no previous information about the games. Be aware that you do not need
to memorize the strategy advice on all the 12 games given in the video: During the actual
test, you can pause between playing the Pymetrics games. I suggest that each time before
you launch the new game, you (re-)watch the respective section of my tutorial video.
Be aware that Pymetrics allows you to take the test only once in 330 days – it really wants
you to play it only once! Your one-and-only result will be forwarded to all companies that
ask their candidates to take the Pymetrics test and that you apply to during the same
cycle.
I have done lots of research on the Pymetrics test; in contrast to all other online tests
covered in this online test prep kit, the Pymetrics test is the only test where I find no
suitable free practice material is available. As I mention in the video, there however is one
provider that has developed a perfect simulation of the 12 official Pymetrics games. I can
testify that this simulation is (virtually) identical to the “real” 12 games and have used it
extensively myself to develop the strategies I present to you in my video tutorial. Once
you have gone through the mock tests, it also offers you further specific solving tips on
each of the games. On the mock test provider’s landing page, you additionally find a long
written guide with free tips on the 12 games:
https://passpymetrics.youinconsulting.com/
In case that, for your job applications, you need to take more than “just” the Pymetrics
test (namely: the SHL test, the Talent-Q / Korn Ferry assessment, the Aon (cut-e)
assessment AND/OR the Cappfinity test), check out if it is more economical for you to get
this bundle of five mock test simulations, which includes the entire Pymetrics mock test
simulation as one of the five:
Kantar, Kraft Heinz, LinkedIn, Mastercard, McDonald’s, Morgan Stanley, PwC, Randstad, Rio Tinto, S&P Global,
Sutherland, Swarovski, Tesla, Unilever, UPS.

https://bundle-offer.youinconsulting.com/
Furthermore, if you need to take the Pymetrics Test as part of your application to the
Boston Consulting Group and want to make use of a paid simulation before taking the
test, then I suggest you to take a look at this BCG Online Case package:
https://onlinecase.youinconsulting.com/
If you go on the check-out page, you will find that you can add another complete
Pymetrics test simulation to the BCG Online Case bundle. I have seen both Pymetrics
test simulations and they both perfectly match the actual Pymetrics test, therefore I
suggest that you pick the simulation that comes with the bundle that is cheaper for you.
While no free practice materials to prepare for the Pymetrics test exist, I would like to
provide you with further resources to understand its nature that I could not cover in my
video tutorial. This official 2-min video from Pymetrics summarizes how Pymetrics likes
its test to be viewed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RSuwNbheGQ
Furthermore, a Pymetrics test-taker has uploaded the official report on his nine character
traits as evaluated by the games. This document illustrates what the Pymetrics test
promises to do; do not spend significant time analyzing it though!
https://pdfcoffee.com/sample-report-of-factor-and-traits-by-pymetrics-pdf-free.html
I know this website looks a bit dodgy, but if you click on the two little arrows, you can
download the example report! :-)
Last but not least, as mentioned in my video tutorial, there are many games where you
need to smash your spacebar as fast possible or hit your cursor keys at the right moment.
During my own practice sessions, my performance occasionally suffered because I was
hesitant to smash my keyboard as heavily as required since I was worried that could
destroy it… At the same time, an only partially functional keyboard will put your Pymetrics
game performance at risk, too. I advise to use an external and wired keyboard (wireless
keyboards pose their own risk in terms of being fully charged and lags). If you like to buy
- 18 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
a new keyboard either before or after :-D taking the Pymetrics assessment, I recommend
you a branded, but low-cost wired keyboard here:

India: https://amzn.eu/d/bpYc7dn

You can still read what was advised on the previous version of the Bain recruiting
website at minute of the video referenced below (or:
https://youtu.be/_XcN8XUPdMo?t=167 ).
Bain explained that it also makes use of the Pymetrics test that I cover at the beginning of
this guide, whereas the Sova test “is used at a few of Bain offices globally and mainly with
our Europe and Middle East offices”.
The (Bain) Sova test, which is also demanded from many other companies such as
Deloitte, KPMG, Emirates or Pfizer, I have broken down in detail for you in this detailed
and interactive must-watch (!) video tutorial:
Sova Assessment (Bain & Company | Deloitte | KPMG): How to master the Bain Sova
Test (Walkthrough)
https://youtu.be/_XcN8XUPdMo
To prepare for the Sova assessment, I recommend you to first take a look at Sova’s
officially published mock test questions:
https://sovaassessment.com/candidate-preparation-hub
Sova recently has made it more difficult to find the free mock tests, so please follow my
intsructions closely. On the website, scroll down just a little until you find this “line”:
- 19 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
Click on “practice tests”: You will be asked to provide your first and last name as well as
your email address, but actually… you can insert any fictional email address to access the
materials .
The questions are too easy to resemble the real test experience, but still you can use them
to familiarize yourself with the Sova test environment. The demo questions currently do
not include an example of the Sova Personality test section – however, I have covered you
there, too Sova also runs a couple of research surveys to which it invites beta testers
to participate. You can get access to them through the same website as referenced above;
scroll a bit further down this time until you see this line:
Click on “assessment trials” and fill in some details (again, you can sign up with random
personal data).
You find an example extract of a Sova Personality test in the “Sova Competency
Assessment”. Unfortunately, solutions to these research questions are not revealed, and
you are not provided with any feedback – so again, use these questions to familiarize
yourself with the Sova test components.
- 20 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
If you seek a resource for dedicated practice of the (Bain) Sova test that covers all potential
modules of the Sova assessment and offers insights on how to approach them and an
explanation of the solutions, then I recommend you to look into this commercial (Bain)
Sova mock test prep kit solution:
https://bainsova.youinconsulting.com/
I have reviewed this Sova test simulation software myself and therefore endorse it,
especially since I think it is rather decently priced given the number of mock tests and
support provided in the bundle. It contains 4 logical reasoning mock tests, 11 verbal mock
tests and 12 numerical mock tests, several Situational Judgement mock tests as well as a
very comprehensive Personality mock test, covering the actual Sova assessment entirely.
Furthermore, your performance is compared not only absolutely, but also relatively with
other Sova mock test-takers, and the kit provides a detailed explanation on the solution
to each and every single question in all mock tests included in the package, making it very
suitable for learning.
Roland Berger Analytical Test: How to crack the RB consulting online test
https://youtu.be/e7MO_8HbOlU
Be aware that the Roland Berger Analytical Test is the Talent-Q / Korn Ferry assessment.
To prepare for the Roland Berger Analytical Test, Roland Berger shares with its applicants
a set of three “official” mock tests (one numerical one, one verbal one and one logical one).
You can access these mock tests well-before you apply. I strongly recommend you to
familiarize yourself with what to expect by taking these three “official” mock assessments:
https://www.trytalentq.com/how-to-prepare/
To find the right mock assessment as instructed by Roland Berger, hit the “Try Elements
ability tests” on the right, as illustrated in this screenshot:
- 21 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
Create an account and have a go. When registering for this mock assessment, you may
consider using a different email address to the one you are going to use for your
application – though I do not believe anyone really tracks that.
The mock test software provides you with an overall test result, but does not explain you
the paths to the solutions. In most cases, you will find you will be able to find the right
answer yourself if you only spend enough time on it. However, in regards to those
questions where you are unsure about the answers, I would like to make you aware that
another content creator has already generated detailed walkthroughs on each question
contained in the official mock tests. You find them here:
I recommend you though not to watch these tutorials entirely, but only for those
questions where you feel specifcally unsure. Instead, spend the time on extra practice.
Beyond the free test prep resources in this kit, if you look for a customized “high-end”
shortcut solution to prepare for the Roland Berger Analytical Test, a dedicated test prep
kit tailored to the Roland Berger Analytical Test exists. This kit I have accessed myself and
can confirm that it resembles the real Roland Berger Analytical Test experience very
closely (a few screenshots from it are shared in the video):
https://joinrolandberger.youinconsulting.com/
On that landing page, scroll down and select the “Talent-Q All-Inclusive Pack”, which is
designed for the Roland Berger Analytical Test preparation.

I. Arctic Shores Online Assessment (Skyrise City
app: PwC Career Unlocked, KPMG Ready,
Siemens Online Assessment & many others)
The Arctic Shores Online Assessment is a “gamified” online test, which is usually
presented in the form of the “Skyrise City” app. This app is customizable, so that it
comes in various disguises, such as the “PwC Career Unlocked” app or the “KPMG Ready”
app. A growing list of companies (at least occasionally) makes use of the Arctic Shores
games (those known to me you find in this footnote3).
Each of the 10 Arctic Shores games poses a different challenge to you; among other
capabilities, they try to evaluate your memory, concentration or dexterity skills. The test
is tough, especially given normally candidates do not know in advance what is expected
from them. This I what I wanted to change through my video tutorial on the Arctic
Shores test, in which I break down and share my detailed strategy advice on each of the
10 games with you:
Arctic Shores Online Assessment (PwC Career Unlocked & Skyrise City): The 10
games | Complete Guide

Airbus, Arcadis, BBC, Burness Paul, Capita, CBRE, Citi, Clifford Chance, Coca Cola, Deloitte, Dentons,
Deutsche Telekom, Essex Fire & Rescue, Kantar, KMPG, Metro Bank, Natwest, Network Rail, PA Consulting
Group, PWC, RBS, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Standard Life, Talktalk, Taylor Wessing, Thales, The Adecco
Group, The AA, Unilever, Vitality, WSP.
- 23 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
Be aware that during the actual assessment, you can take breaks between the games.
Therefore, during your test, to refresh your mind you can return to this video tutorial to
watch the respective video section of the game you need to play next.
As mentioned in the video, in this written guide I want to share with you additional
materials to help you familiarize with and prepare for your assessment.
The purpose of the Arctic Shores games was sincerely described by its Chief Customer
Officer in this interview: https://www.efinancialcareers.com/news/2022/02/how-to-pass-
arctic-shores-personality-and-aptitude-test
Arctic Shores itself shares additional background information (which I believe originally
were not intended to inform test-takers, but rather new client companies for the
purpose of promotion) in this interesting booklet:
https://cdn.southampton.ac.uk/assets/imported/transforms/content-
block/UsefulDownloads_Download/0598B46778E544B8B354516C2F7862A0/Arctic%20S
hores%20University%20Pack.pdf
For the sake of completeness, you find the PhD thesis that examined how well candidates
can fake their performance in the Arctic Shores Skyrise City games and mentioned in the
video here (do not spend much time on this though, as it will not aid your preparation):

me-Based_Assessment_for_Personality_Unpublished_Manuscript
There is no free online mock test available to practice the Arctic Shores games, but you
can still leverage some available resources. Arctic Shores offers a surprisingly large
Candidate Support section on its website:
https://knowledgebase.arcticshores.com/knowledge/candidate-support
The most interesting findings from this section I have extracted and presented to you in
my walkthrough video already. However, I want to make you aware that Arctic Shores also
offers a mini trial app to allow candidates to familiarize themselves with the mobile game
environment. I was unable to test the app, since it prompts you to enter login details (I
suggest you try using the user name and password provided to you by the employer you
apply to):
https://www.arcticshores.com/downloads
Do not expect too much from the trial app anyway though; it has <2 out of 5 review stars
on the google playstore, and apparently it features only one single game, which does not
appear in the actual Arctic Shores test and only lasts 2 minutes overall.
Furthermore, I have found a report by a candidate who has gone through the
assessment and shares his experience and advice on some of the games:
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/skyrise-city-thoughts-treijon-johnson/
- 24 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
As you can see, his advice sometimes matches and sometime deviates from mine. If in
doubt, I suggest you to follow my strategy advice, as I have gone through the games
more than once :-).
I recommend you to read through this written guide on the Arctic Shores games:
https://breaktheice.youinconsulting.com/
This website is run by the company that has developed a perfect simulation (or mock
test) of the Arctic Shores games. I used this simulation extensively to practice the games
for as long as needed and to develop the strategy advice I am sharing with you in my
video tutorial. The simulation not only allows to practice the same games that appear in
the actual assessment, but it also comes with comprehensive strategy & solution guides.
If you want to max out your odds of passing the assessment, this is the only perfect
Arctic Shores simulation that exists, and it delivers what it promises.
The test prep kit provider currently markets this bundle offer to candidates applying to
jobs in the finance industry (Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, UBS, etc.), which institutions
indeed make heavy use of these assessments, and you can access all mock tests for one
month or longer.
If you are indeed a lost soul applying for a career in banking, please take in my very
subjective opinon why I strongly prefer consulting over finance careers here:
https://youtu.be/LW8w_geMStY
- 25 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
If you have not yet sent your application – please hesitate for just ~2.5 hours and
take my online course, which is available at very affordable price:
https://your-perfect-cv.youinconsulting.com/
In the first part of this course, I teach you which criteria the top consulting firms screen
for during the candidate selection process. In the second part of the course, I share with
you my customized consulting application templates that enable you to write
outstanding CVs and cover letters that comply with the MBB requirements. I take you
step-by-step through all sections of these documents, so that we rewrite (or upgrade)
your application documents together. Furthermore, I share with you my original and
very own CV and cover letter that I sent to McKinsey and landed me my McKinsey job!
Students/interns: If you plan to now apply for a (consulting) internship, you still
have plenty of time to tick all the boxes that I recommend you to tick in the first
part of the course. Use your advantage!
L. Final notes
I hope you find these resources helpful!
1. Given that the online tests often present the first hurdle during your application process
(after submitting your application), you will unfortunately need to dedicate at least some
time to their preparation. Keep in mind though that what all companies have in common
is that you need to pass the later job and case interviews. Hence be efficient in your online
test preparation and reserve the bulk of your time for preparing for your job and business
case interviews.
2. The purpose for crafting this document has been to offer you a list of free resources
for your business & consulting online test preparation. I am aware though that some of
- 26 -
https://www.youinconsulting.com/
you prefer to save time and invest money for access to the tailor-made mock test software
solutions. Please note that if you decide to purchase one of the paid practice test solutions
through the affiliate links above, I would receive a small commission from the test
provider (with no cost for you, of course). I have critically reviewed all mock test solutions
that I list in this guide in depth and only recommend what I endorse.
3. Last but not least, I pledge to continue pushing out top-quality content on business
and consulting careers. If you are currently at the job application stage, you may want
to check out the video tutorials in my growing “How to get a top consulting job at
McKinsey, BCG or Bain” playlist:
