Reading Practice
Read the following sentences. Then choose a sentence and draw a
picture of it. Share it with the class.
Teacher’s note
Game 1
Duration: 10-15 min
Materials:
Table (A3 x no of groups, 4 persons per group)
Word (A4 x no of groups, 4 persons per group)
Candies
Divide the class into groups of 4. Then distribute a table and a set of
words to each group.
Explain to Ss you will call out a word, and the Ss must place the words
in the correct column.
The fastest group to arrange the words in the correct order and column
wins.
Then award the winner team with candies.
Finally, T should draw the table and write the correct answers on the
board.
Read out the words as your write them down and have Ss repeat after
you.
Tell Ss to copy the answers into their WS: P7.

Blank A4 paper (1 per student)
Colour pencils (1 box per group, 4 students per group)
Candies
Divide the class into groups of 4. Then distribute each Ss with a blank
piece of A4 paper and a box of colour pencils.
Assign each group with on of the poems on P. 5 or 6.
Tell Ss each group will have to read out the poem, but before they do
so they have to draw pictures to go with the poem.
Each Ss must draw a picture and write down what it is that ‘Long A’
likes.
Long A: S1: play games, S2: Sit on sleigh, S3: bake cake, S4: the number
eight
Long I: S1: eat fries, S2: eat pies, S3: wear a tie, S4: jump high
When they have pictures to go with the poem, they must come out
and read the poem to the class with their pictures.
The Ss should read the poem in the following manner:
To make sure Ss keep quiet when others are reciting, T can tell Ss
they will be each awarded candies if they behave well.
When all Ss have performed, award them candies.
Allow Ss to take their picture home.

The group with the most points will be awarded candies.

Sound Chart (A3 x 5)
Candies
Divide the class into 5 groups and distribute each with one set of word
strips and one sound chart.
Tell Ss their task is to place the word cards under the correct sound in
the table.
When they have finished, they should raise their hands for teacher to
check.
Award each Ss with a candy when they have correctly placed all words.
NB: You may want Ss to keep the chart for the next activity in the
worksheet. The chart may help Ss complete the table.
Phoneme Sounds
In this course, you learnt that different letter combinations make
different vowel sounds.
Take a look at the combinations. Then write them under the vowel
sound they make. Remember some combinations can make more than
one sound.
