UPSC ESE 12-Month Timetable - Electrical Branch

Structure:
- Weekdays: 2 hrs/day (8-10 PM)
- Weekends: 5-6 hrs/day
- Focus: Core subjects, numericals, GS/aptitude, mock tests, revision, interview prep

Months 1-2: Electrical Circuits & Basics

Thu: Transformers Numericals - Equivalent circuit, efficiency
Fri: Machines Revision - Short notes + flashcards
Sat: Numericals practice + Previous year questions

Months 5-6: Induction & Synchronous Machines


Mon: Induction Machines Theory - Types, characteristics
Tue: Induction Machines Numericals - Torque, slip, losses
Wed: Synchronous Machines Theory - Generator & motor operation
Thu: Synchronous Machines Numericals - Voltage regulation, phasor diagrams
Fri: Machines Revision - DC + Transformer + Induction + Synchronous
Sat: Numericals practice + Prelims mock test
Sun: Power Systems Intro + GS + Engineering aptitude + Weekly recap

Months 7-8: Power Systems & Protection


Mon: Transmission Lines - Short, medium, long lines numericals
Tue: Distribution Systems - Feeders, buses, load calculations
Wed: Power System Components - Transformers, capacitors, switchgear
Thu: Power System Protection - Relays, circuit breakers, protection schemes
Fri: Power Systems Revision - Flashcards + high-weightage topics
Sat: Numericals practice + Mock Prelims

Months 9-10: Control Systems & Power Electronics


Mon: Control Systems - Transfer function - Block diagrams, signal flow
Tue: Control Systems - Stability - Routh-Hurwitz, Root locus
Wed: Controllers - P, PI, PID, state-space
Thu: Power Electronics - Converters - Rectifiers, choppers
Fri: Power Electronics - Inverters & Drives - Motor drives

Sun: Measurements & Instrumentation + GS / Engineering Aptitude + Weekly recap

Months 11-12: Revision, Mock Tests & Interview


Mon: Core Subjects Revision - Circuits + Machines + Power Systems
Tue: Core Subjects Revision - Control + Power Electronics
Wed: Numericals Practice - Mixed topics
Thu: Prelims Full Mock Test - Timed 2 papers
Fri: Review Mock Test - Identify weak topics
Sat: Mains Answer Writing - Previous year questions
Sun: Personality / Interview Prep - Mock interview, situational questions
Daily: GS / Current Affairs - 30-60 min reading/revision

Additional Notes:
1. Rotate subjects weekly to avoid monotony.
2. Maintain flashcards & formula sheets for quick revisions.
3. Use industry experience for mains answers and interview examples.
4. Take at least 1-2 prelims and 1 mains mock test per month during the last 4 months.
5. Consistency is key: 2-3 focused hours/day is enough.
