Chapter

Expressing creativity
2
Introduction
This chapter focuses on reading music notes in a set of whole half quarters, eighth
notes, and sixteenth notes with time signatures, as well as playing chords written
on the keyboard.
When we play a piece of music or melody according to the set time, we can easily
understand it by movement.

The essence of acting to make a theatre (film) It is important to know the writers,
the ways of finding ideas for characters and how ideas are created.
Therefore, we find the above-mentioned things to be basic to understand and
write or, to write using panto mime and sudden creativity to dress up the identity
of the characters.
In relation to the 5th grade and in a continuous manner, the concept of design art
and practical education is prepared in this chapter in a way that is suitable for the
6th grade. Therefore, the understanding of design education requires continuous
design practice, as design skills are fundamental to all areas of the art profession,
students should complete the necessary learning materials.

Learning outcomes expected from students

After studying and completing this lesson:
You will read written notes according to their duration.

You will play notes written in the treble clef and bass clef on the staff.

Note Symbols And Duration

The type of note head and the type of flag or beam attached to the stem represents the duration of the note. The duration is
relative, not absolute. The note symbol only tells you how long one note lasts compared to other notes in the piece. The note's
duration is also relative to the tempo. The same note symbol might last two seconds at a slow tempo, but only last half a
second at a fast tempo. A. Counting full voice notes and full rest notes

B. Counting whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes and rests.

A rest indicates silence. For every note symbol there is a corresponding rest symbol.

2.1.3. Low and High Pitch

Learning outcomes expected from students

After studying and completing this lesson:
You will distinguish properly the distance between sounds.

Pitch as described in music is the specific position of a sound within a set of [Link] are considered either
higher or lower in pitch depending upon the frequency of vibration in the sound that is created by a wave. The quality
of a sound governed by the rate of vibrations producing it; the degree of highness- High pitched sounds have short
wavelengths, which means that the peaks are close together. Low pitched sounds have longer wavelengths, so the
peaks are more spread out or lowness of a tone.

So as to differentiate the distance level between low and high pitch, when we look at the sound
distance (interval) Properly, it means the distance between two sounds with the number of letters.

29 29
It is a method to know the relationship from one sound to the next sound. Intervals are divided
into two categories, simple and compound. When we say simple interval, we call the interval up
to one octave, and the interval above an octave is called compound interval.

Rhythm is the pattern of sound, silence, and emphasis in a song. In music theory, rhythm refers to the recurrence of
notes and rests (silences) in time. When a series of notes and rests repeats, it forms a rhythmic pattern. The
organization of notes with respect to the beat is called rhythm. The simplest definition for what is rhythm in music is –
the arrangement of notes of different lengths.

Drums, percussion, bass, guitar, piano, and synthesizer may all be considered rhythm instruments, depending on the
context. An example of rhythm is the rising and falling of someone's voice. An example of rhythm is someone
dancing in time with music. When writing a song we might express a rhythm by singing it, like going boom, chak,
boom boom, chak. Boom, chak, boom boom, chak If a drummer is around he could play it of course.

Idea expression in theater
Theatre is a collaborative (a set of) arts form which combines: words, voice, movement,
and visual elements to express the story (meaning). The work of theatre encompasses the
live performance of improvised and scripted (text) work. It also the basic for dramatic
forms such as film, television and other electronic media. As a creative expression, theatre
is one of the creative works that commonly identified methods which include drama (play),
dance, music, creative writing and the visual arts, including photography. Expressionism in
theatre is a style of performance that emphasizes the inner emotional experience of the
character, rather than the external reality of the situation. This style is often used to explore
the darker side of human nature, and can be used to create an atmosphere of suspense or
[Link] art of the theatre is essentially one of make-believe, or mimesis. In Drama it must
be conveyed not by a narrator but by the actors’ ability to make the audience “believe in”
their speech, movement, thoughts, and feelings.

Mime or pantomime

Mime or pantomime is the art of narration and expression through body

movement. There are two basic types of mime literal and abstract. Literal mime is the best-
known form. It tells a story, usually humorous, in such a way that the audience knows
exactly how to interpret the plot. In abstract mime there often is no plot at all. Abstract
mime attempts to call up feelings and thoughts, usually of a serious nature, from the
audience. Ancient mime used props to highlight different actors, such as easily
recognizable painted faces and colorful costumes, to perform exaggerated and laugh-out-
loud stories. This type of mime is available in different delivery locations and methods,
such as on the road; They have been performing on stage as well as on video since the
invention of television.

33
TV. Mim Street mime

When we look at modern mime, however, it doesn't use any kind of input devices, and it is
presented by thinking things in the mind (imagination) with objects or other associated
characters, or it includes a story that has a beginning, development andending in a convincing
way. This mime presents real and unbelievable stories or completely unbelievable actions in
tight and loose plots.

Tight plot ------------------ logical and honest actions

Loose plot------unbelievable story and action presented.
lunch Pretend that the ideals we use in the tight plot as real.
In loose plot playing with a chewing gum ball. etc. Impossible things are possible.

Panto mime
This type of mime allows for a limited set of events to be shown through action,
but it uses a large plot for possible but exaggerated stories and uses a variety of
essential materials appropriately. He made a great contribution to the world of
art in
the era when sound was not invented, and movies (videos) were presented only in action.

Example Watch Charlie Chaplin's The Time Machine.

It is still presented in a modern form with added audio inputs and is serving
as agreat form of entertainment especially for the hearing impaired.
Example Look at Mr. Bean's works.

34
Idea Expression of Theme in Movie (video)
The term theme is defined as the central idea in film or video making. It is the film's central or unifying
concept that evokes a universal human experience and can be stated in one word or short phrase like:
“beauty, renaissance, love, death, democracy, inflation, covid-19, HIV/Aids” and etc. can be taken as an
example of theme in one word or short phrase.
It is also referred as the idea, premise, or purpose of a movie. In this context, it is the whole reason why
movies are made. On the other hand, the theme is the heart of the movie in which the movie is regulated by
the theme. Facial expressions in videos are a key way to convey how the characters are feeling without
having to rely on voice or text.

Feelings, Ideas and Emotions

Idea Expression in Photography

Expression is the action of making known one's thoughts or feelings. In impressionist photography you create an
image to communicate to others, using visual language, how you feel about a specific idea or a subject.

Good photography is more than just taking pictures. As with all forms of art, well-executed photography always
strives to convey an idea or message. A good example of this is conceptual photography.

The term Conceptual Photography derives from conceptual Art, a movement of the late 1960s. Today the term is used
to describe either a methodology or a genre.

Conceptual photography is basically the art of creating photographs that illustrate ideas. Be it an illustration of a story,
a dramatic moment or even just some simple things in life that would bring a smile to your face. A good conceptual
image should never leave you indifferent.

35
Creative is a somewhat unique category in photography. This category includes photos and edits that are
Specifically made to give a certainmood, focus on a certain theme, or anything to be honest.
It involves adopting a new, different approach towards a photo, without which it would be seen as a common
picture.
Adding extra elements to a picture to highlight certain textures and features has become a common
practice in the industry (photography industry), although the amount and the post-processing will often
separate creative photography from common photography.
The photographers are also advised to ask themselves what they can do differently in the shoot they want
to capture. Many ideas will then pop up. Execute each of them, and maximize the potential of each photo
thatyou take. Start off by carrying your camera everywhere to seek out somepictures and ideas that
randomly cross your mind. The photographer may see a beautiful sunset, and two sunsets. He/she can
also pour some water onto a surface and try to shoot its reflection on the water.

Sudden creativity

Sudden creativity is an art in which students develop their creativity and come up with ideas in
different ways, individually or in groups, and create a story. This means without any type of essay
writing, we can create an essay based on different ways of getting ideas and feelings: articles,
characters, stories, news or social events.

There are many benefits of sudden creativity, if we suddenly lose the script while acting on the stage
or if some problem or incident occurs, e.g. If it is outside of the task given to us, if we stumble. If our
clothes are torn; If the person working with us gets sick or doesn't understand us quickly, we use our
personal creativity to integratethe event with the story and fill it in so that the action continues
without the viewer knowing about us. The following excerpt (beginning) story is taken from the first
short story of Gulelew Sekaram in Ethiopia, and let the students develop the story, write it and
perform it. That's the first small thatched cottage just across the bridge to the east across the river
from the old wooden custom. He lived there in his house there in Gulele. He is the one who carried
the wood, dug the soil and built the house. He paid the price. Tebeje was proud. Later, his eyes filled
with tears. A bunch of tears rolled down his cheeks. With the palm of his left hand, he wiped away
the tears that rolled down his cheeks. His eyes filled with tears because he had a nest to himself. His
heart was transfixed with unspeakable joy. They can take shelter in the corner of the house if the rain
drives them away. The house belongs to God, so they stay inside the house until the rain stops. It is
good for them to say "bless your house". When someone asks, it is said to be tebeje’s. Next, he said,
"Which one is tebeje the one who is called the chicken merchant."

Design, Painting and printing Making

Learning outcomes expected from students

After studying and completing this lesson:
-You will understand the concept and practice of the art of design.
- You will draw sketches for coloring.

-You will identify the characteristics of colors.

- You mix colors together to create new colors.
-You distinguish primary colors.
- You paint by mixing primary colors with secondary colors.

- When primary and secondary colors are mixed you will know how tertiary color will be
established.

a. Design- is the act of using lines to create a picture. It is often representative and conveys an imitation
of a place or thing. Design is an art method in which we transform our ideas into visual art by directly
observing our surroundings or by remembering what we have previously noticed and recorded by the mind,
or by using personal creativity without leaving the reflection of the real world. There are different materials
that we use to carry out design work and their services are different. Drawing is often used as a starting point in
the creation of most artwork. Artists use it as a means to record and experiment with their initial ideas as well as

38

38
to help them to plan the production of their finished works. Sculptors, painters, printmakers, and ceramic
artists often use drawingsprior to producing their final pieces.

Drawing can be done with so called dry media, such as a pen, chalk, charcoal, pencil, ink, or markers,
and is usually done on paper or canvas .

b. Painting-like drawing is another major means by which marks are created on the surface. Whether painting
is to create a realistic representation of a subject, to explore an idea or to react to a feeling, painting just like
drawing, allows anyone to respond and express themselves visually. Paint is obviously used in painting.
The paint itself is made up of two separate ingredients – pigment that creates the color and a mediumwhich
moistens and bonds the color onto a surface. Mediums of painting Equipment needed for painting Pencil,
charcoal, crayons, traditional dyes, contemporary paints acrylic, watercolor, gauge, tempera, oil paint,
poster color canvas, brushes, palette, sponge, string, and palette knives.

The major element of painting is color.

Color is at the heart of every painting. It is arguably themost important element because it sets the tone for
how viewers feel about the work. It can, for instance, be warm and inviting or cold and stark. Either way,
color can set the mood for a piece. There are endless ways that painters can play with color.
Color theory is one of the keys to working with color, especially for painters.
Each new color you introduce to a canvasplays a vital role in the perception viewers have of the piece.
Color canbe broken down further into hue, intensity, and value.

Far and Near Horizon view

When we look at objects of different sizes that are far and near together, you will
realize that there is a phenomenon that occurs in our vision. compare thesize of a large object
that is far away and a small object that is close by look and discuss what you notice.

Picture: Far and near View Horizon

As an object moves away from us, it appears smaller and dimmer in color. On the
otherhand, when a small object close to our vision is compared to a large object
at a distance, the smaller one appears larger or equal to the larger one.
Therefore, when designing, it allows us to express distance and closeness,
openness and depth in ourdesign by emphasizing what is presented to reduce
the distance.

2.4.2. Light source and Shadow

Light source is the direction or the path from which the light originates dominantly. So, every aspect of
drawing is affected by the placement of this light source. The area where the object is receiving little or no
light is called the shadow. When light falls on objects, shadows are cast in the opposite direction of the light.
The shadows that are created can be different depending on the type of light source and different events. When
natural light, i.e. the light of the sun and the moon rests on things, the shadow of everything falls in one
direction, and this is the information that in the morning, the shadow falls to the west and in the afternoon, it
falls to the east.

43
C. Print making is an art form and a way of mass-producing images and text without the use of a digital
printer. The definition of printmaking is the process of transferring an inked text or image to a surface
using a matrix. Printmaking is the process of creating artworks by printing, normally onpaper, but also on
fabric, wood, metal, and other surfaces. "Traditional printmaking" normally covers only the process of
creating prints using a hand processed technique, rather than a photographic reproduction of a visual
artwork which would be printed using an electronic machine (a printer); however, there is some cross-
over between traditional and digital printmaking, including digital screen printing.

Except in the case of mono-typing, all printmaking processes have the capacity to produce identical
multiples of the same artwork, which is called a print. Each print produced is considered an "original"
work of art, and is correctly referred to as an "impression", not a "copy" (that means a different print
copying the first, common in early printmaking). However, impressions can vary considerably, whether
intentionally or not. Master printmakers are technicians who are capable of printing identical
"impressions" by hand. Historically, many printed images were created as a preparatory study, such as a
drawing.

Summary
Maintaining environmental cleanliness means protecting the health of society and
livingthings in the area. Improper disposal of garbage, use outside the toilet, etc.,
lead to pollution of the environment. From this idea, turn your observations of the
environment into a design and show it to your teacher.

The non-verbal forms of acting are known as mime and panto mime, and have taken
different forms in different eras. Ancient mime used materials that could highlight
different actors, such as easily recognizable painted faces, bright costumes,
exaggerated and laughable mimes.

It was where they performed actions with stories that could be shortened. When we look at
modern mime, however, it does not use any kind of input devices and presents the true and
believable stories or completely unbelievable actions by structuring them into tight and
