This is a knitted pattern for doll called “ ”.

It’s perfect project when you have some cool scrap

yarns to be used for dress, hair or some accessories. It’s designed for advanced beginner. All you need to know is
knitting in rounds. This pattern is a good opportunity to learn something new (in case you’ve never tried it
before...) like provisional cast on or Icelandic bind off. Doll measures 28cm (11.02″) and is very soft.

YOU WILL NEED THESE KNITTING INSTRUMENTS:

- Knitting double pointed needles (dpn’s) size 3.0mm (3 US size)
- Crochet hook 3.0mm or 3.5mm (4 or 5 US size)
- Stuffing for the body, head, hands, legs
- Black safety eyes 8mm (if you do not have safety eyes, you can embroider the eyes)
- Tapestry needle for sewing the knitted parts
- Embroidery needle and thread for sewing hair on head
- Scissors

- And what about the YARNS?

o For body, legs and hands: use yarn of main color , yarn assigned for 3.5mm/4 US size needles (I
use all types of wools I have; for this particular dolls I used YarnArt Jeans, beige color)
o For hair: use some think wool (my favourite is Drops Eskimo in different colors as it’s easy to be
sewn on, it’s soft and good looking)
o For dress: use whatever you have for 3.0mm/3 US size; multicolored yarns make nice effects on
dress.
o For shoes: use some thick wool for 5.0-6.0mm/ 8-10 US size needles

This doll is knitted in parts and sewn together (head, body, two legs, and two hands). You can start with
whatever part you like. See the section “Sewing together” for picture.

1
HANDS Make two. You are starting from shoulder and knitting towards hands.

Use yarn of main color and CO 9 sts and join them in rounds using dpn’s nr. 3.0mm.

R1-R4: K all (9 sts.)

R5: K1, K2tog (6 sts.)

R6- R29: K all (6 sts.)

R30: KfB all (12 sts.)

R31-R36: K all (12 sts.)

Now stuff the hand. Use stuffing, natural wool or some scrap yarn to stuff the hand firmly to create “ball-
shaped” hand).

R37: K2tog (6 sts).

Cut the yarn and using the tapestry needle thread through the remaining stitches.

BODY You are starting from the bottom part and knitting towards the shoulders and neck.

Use yarn of main color and CO 24 sts and dpn’s 3.0mm. And join them in round.

R1-R22: K all (24 sts.)

Now split the sts. on two needles (12+12 sts.). This is the part to form the shoulders. Alternate two rows:

- K2tog and K till end of the sts. on first needle, K2tog and K till end of the sts. on the second needle
- K till the end and K2tog last two sts. on first needle, K till the end and K2tog last two sts. on second
needle

Knit this way until you have 12 sts. in total (6 sts. on each needle). K 1 row. BO all sts.

HEAD Use yarn of main color and CO evenly 36 sts. on 3.0mm dpn’s in round using provisional cast on
method* (you crochet the simple chain with 36 sts.; then CO one stitch in one crochet st using dpn’s. You will
have three dpn’s with 12 sts. on each). For crochet chain I recommend to use very different color from head, it’s
easier later to differentiate between the head thread and helping crochet chain.

*See the link in notes for step-by-step instructions.

R1-R16: K all (36 sts.)

R17: (K4,K2tog) around (30 sts).

2
R18: (K3, K2tog) around (24 sts.)

R19: (K2, K2tog) around (18 sts.)

R20: (K1, K2tog) around (12 sts.)

R21: K2tog around (6 sts.)

Now cut the yarn and thread through the remaining

sts. You finished more than half of the head! Now you
are about to knit the bottom part towards the neck.

Pick up all 36 sts. around the bottom of the body that

are in crochet chain. You can help yourself with
scissors, just be careful to remove only chain and not
to cut you knitted sts. See the pictures how it looks
with the helping crochet chain and how it looks
already transferred on needles.

R1: K all (36 sts.)

R2: (K4, K2tog) around (30 sts).

R3: (K3, K2tog) around (24 sts.)

R4: (K2, K2tog) around (18 sts.)

R5: (K1, K2tog) around (12 sts.)

Now attach the safety eyes- give yourself time, try to place them
proportionally and if you like the position, attach the back part
of safety eyes. Then stuff it firmly with ball-shaped stuffing to
form a head. In case you do not have the safety eyes, you can
embroider them as closed as on the picture.

R6: K2tog around (6 sts.). Now cut the yarn and thread through the remaining sts.

LEGS Make two. You are starting on the top knitting towards the feet/shoes.

Use yarn of main color and CO 12 sts with dpn’s size 3.0mm.

R1-R4: K all (12 sts.)

R5: (K1, K2tog, K1) around (9 sts.)

3
R6-28: K all (9 sts.)

Change yarns and knit the foot/shoe. You keep the same needles with thinker yarn.

R1-6: K all (9 sts.)

Now split the sts. on two needles: 1st five sts. leave on one needle, next four sts on second needle. Five sts. are
for the heel). Leave the needle with 4 stitches aside and work only with needle with 5 sts. Here you will not knit
rounds, but knit in rows and just turn the work as you usually do when knitting on regular straight needles).

Heel rows:

Row1: K all (5 sts.)

Row2: P all (5 sts.)

Row3: K all (5 sts.)

Row4: P all (5 sts.)

Now in R5 you will join these 5 sts. in round with four sts. you left on the one needle in the beginning:

R5: K5, PU 3 sts, K4 from the needle you set aside, PU 3

sts (15 sts.). All sts are in round. See picture for details of
this row on dpn’s.

R6: K 5 sts, K2tog through the back loop, K 5 sts, K2tog, K

1 st (13 sts.)

R7: K all (13 sts.)

R8: K5, K2tog through the back loop, K4, K2tog (11 sts)

R9: K all (11 sts.)

R10: K7, K2tog,K2 (10 sts.)

R11-15: K all (10 sts). Stuff the foot/shoe with stuffing; stuff only till the shoe color what you knitted with thicker
yarn. There is no need to stuff the whole leg. Now cut the yarn and thread through the remaining sts.

4
SEWING TOGETHER
Stuff the body to create a nice
belly up to neck part and sew the
front and back together. Sew the
legs. Position the hands on
shoulder and sew them also. Join
the neck and head and sew with
neat sewing using the same yarn.

Tra-la-laaa.. Body of your knitted

doll is finished!

Now you can play with the hair and dress.

HAIR You can use any type of thick yarn you have, my favorites are scrap yarns from Drops Eskimo. It is 100%
wool so it feels nice; it’s easy to sew on the head and has nice natural color.

Think about the hair type you want to create for your doll and start cutting the yarn! Cut it in longer length that
once sewn you still can cut it and it won’t be too short. Here are different hairstyles I use for your inspiration.
Just use the embroidery needle and very thin thread in hair color to sew yarn by yarn close to each other. You
can use beads, buttons or bells to decorate the hair.

5
BASIC DRESS This is knitted in basic raglan pattern starting from the top knitting towards the bottom of the
dress. I start to knit on regular straight needles to form the top and then switch to dpn’s to knit the skirt part in
rounds. For the BO I use Icelandic BO style as it creates very neat edge. Once you learn the basic pattern, you
can play around with sleeves, edging, length, etc. See samples of the doll below.

On regular straight needles CO 30 sts.

Row1-7: K all (30 sts.)

Row8: K6, PM, K4, PM, K10, PM, K4, PM, K6 (30 sts.)

Row9: K5, KfB, PM, KfB, K2, KfB, PM, KfB, K8, KfB, PM, KfB, K2, KfB, PM, KfB, K5 (38 sts.)

Row10: P all (38 sts.)

Row11: (same logic as R9: KfB in front and after each marker): K6, KfB, PM, KfB, K4, KfB, PM, KfB, K10, KfB, PM,
KfB, K4, KfB, PM, KfB, K6 (46 sts.)

Row12: P all (46 sts.)

Row13: K all (46 sts.)

Row14: P8, PM, BO 8 sts, PM, P14, PM, BO 8 sts, PM, P8 (30 sts.). Sts you did BO are sleeve parts.

R15: K all (30 sts.) Now I prefer to join these 30 sts in round and knit in rounds. See
the back of the dress how it appears once dress is finished. Top part was knitted in
rows, skirt is knitted in rounds. You can sew it together or just where the neck is.

R16: K all (30 sts) if using dpn’s. If you decided to keep the work on regular straight
needles, P all to have stockinette pattern. Now you are knitting skirt. Length
depends on you how you like it.

R17: every 3rd stitch increase as KfB

R18: every 4th stitch increase as KfB

Now K in rounds until you like the length. Once satisfied, BO all sts.
