ASSERTION AND REASONING QUESTIONS)
(All questions are compulsory. No internal choice is provided in
this section)
Q1. 1
A circle can have _________ parallel tangents at a single time
a) 0 b) 1 c)2 d) infinitely many
Q2.
1
In the above figure, <PQR = 100°, where P, Q and R are points
on a circle with centre O. Find <OPR + <ORP
(a) 200 (b) 80 (c) 10 (d) 20
Direction :- In question numbers 4,5 and 6, a statement of
assertion (A) is followed by a statement of reason(R). Choose
the correct option out of the following :
a) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true and reason (R)
is the correct explanation of assertion (A)
b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true but reason (R) is
not the correct explanation of assertion (A)
c) Assertion (A) is true but reason (R) is false
d) Assertion (A) is false but reason (R) is true
Q3. Assertion (A) : If PA and PB are tangents drawn from an 1
external point P to a circle with centre O, then the quadrilateral
AOBP is cyclic
Reason (R) : The angle between the two tangents drawn from
an external point at a circle are supplementary to the angle
subtended by the line segments joining the points of contact at
the centre.
SECTION – B
(All questions are compulsory. In case of internal choice,
attempt any one question only)
Q4. Two concentric circles are of radii 7 cm and r cm respectively, 2
where r cm > 7cm. A chord of the larger circle of length 48 cm,
touches the smaller circle. Find the value of r.
Q5. a) Prove that the radius of a circle is perpendicular to the
tangent at the point of contact.
2
[OR]
b) Two tangents TP and TQ are drawn to a circle with centre o
from an external point T . prove that ∠PTQ = 2 ∠OPQ
SECTION – C
(All questions are compulsory. In case of internal choice,
attempt any one question only)
Q6. 3
At one end A of a diameter AB of a circle of radius 5 cm, tangent
XAY is drawn to the circle. Find the length of the chord CD
parallel to XY and at a distance 8 cm from A.
a) If all the sides of a parallelogram touch the circle, show that
the parallelogram is a rhombus. [OR]
Q7.

b) If a circle touches the side BC of a triangle ABC at P and
extended sides AB and AC at Q and R, respectively, prove
that AR =½ x perimeter of triangle
SECTION – D
(All questions are compulsory. In case of internal choice,
attempt any one question only)
Q8. a) The radius of the incircle of a triangle is 3 cm and the
segments into which one side divided by the point of
contact are 6 cm and 9 cm. Find the other two sides of the
triangle.
[ OR]
b) In the figure O is the centre of a circle of radius 5 cm, T is a
point such that OT =13 cm and OT intersects the circle at 4
E. If AB is the tangent to the circle at E, find the length of
AB
SECTION E
(Case based question)
A Ferris wheel (or a big wheel in the United Kingdom) is an amusement ride consisting of a
rotating upright wheel with multiple passenger-carrying components (commonly referred
to as passenger cars, cabins, tubs, capsules, gondolas, or pods) attached to the rim in
such a way that as the wheel turns, they are kept upright, usually by gravity. After taking
a ride in Ferris wheel, Aarti came out from the crowd and was observing her friends who
were enjoying the ride . She was curious about the different angles and measures that the
wheel will form. She forms the figure as given below
1. In the given figure find ∠ROQ
2. Find ∠RQP
3. Find ∠ORP or Find ∠RSQ
