Innovation means to do something in a new way and when we take this meaning of

innovation out into the scenario of an educational environment it means bringing creativity and

adaptability (Thompson, 2022). It is the openness to investigate the problems with fresh eyes and

address them in various new ways. Innovation is finding ways to serve the students in a better

way, introducing technology to build a blended classroom environment, and providing

opportunities for the learners to indulge in communication with their peers and other

stakeholders.

How Innovation Looks Like?

For students, innovation is a change in the classroom setting where they are empowered to

speak and are given a voice to create the environment. A place where students feel safe and

secure and where their needs are well catered to is how innovation looks like for students.

Empowering students with the skills from an early age that will allow them to survive in the

world at large in the future is what I believe is innovation for the students (Martin, 2018).

For teachers, innovation may look like an opportunity to create an environment where the

students are heard and encouraged to indulge in activities that lets them enjoy their school and

want to come every day to look forward to new learning experiences they will have inside of the

school. It is a look where teachers are themselves engulfed in the learning process being

facilitators for the students rather than lecturers.

How Innovation Feels Like?


Innovation is a feeling of excitement, inspiration, and willingness to learn for the students.

Innovation is suppressed when the students do the same practice every day for instance, listening

to lectures and solving the worksheet at the end of the lesson. However, it changes to innovation

when students have various activities that will allow them to enjoy the lesson and happily finish

the tasks rather than thinking of it as a burden, they will be excited to complete the tasks pushing

themselves to the highest of their potential.

For teachers, innovation comes when they enter the classes with full energy ready to pursue

their goals and dreams and they implement strategies that further the interest of the learners so

that they pursue their dreams and interests as well. It is a safe place where the culture of learning

and embarking on a new perspective is practiced every day.

How Innovation Sounds Like?

Innovation is like the sound of ideas of one student colliding with the ideas of other students

in a classroom environment where everyone collaborates and communicates to develop

perspectives and opinions about different issues at hand and other concepts. It sounds like a place

where everyone listens to others, agrees on a few things, and disagrees with others to experience

new learning and master those skills to develop responsible behaviors.

For teachers, it sounds like a room full of various questions, inquiries, and exciting

discussions. It is an environment in which students learn via different techniques that involve

technology, where students and teachers reflect on their practices and improve to be successful to

achieve the objectives.


In conclusion, it is important to bring innovation in the way learning takes place (UNESCO,

2012). Innovation in education enhances critical thinking, and excitement to learn and reflect,

and develops an openness to adapt to cater to the needs of the students. Innovation is an essential

tool that allows learners to transition into the world at different stages of their lives building

necessary skills and experiences.
