Report writing
A good RAWE report should convey a clear narrative of what you did, what you observed,
what the evidence shows, and what you recommend written so that readers can understand
and use it. Start with the prescribed front matter in your template: the cover page, the
certification and signatures, and an acknowledgement that express thanks to host farmers,
faculty, resource persons and others who have contributed to this programme. Follow this
with the table of contents and lists of figures so that readers can quickly locate material.
Begin the main text with a concise introduction that explains the purpose and objectives of
the RAWE programme, the places and dates of attachment, the student team composition and
the broad methods used. Organise the report around village attachment along with the eight
activity chapters, plant clinic, unit attachment and agro-industrial attachment. For each
activity present a short statement of its objective, then describe the methods you used in the
field, then present results supported by succinct tables or figures, and finally discuss what the
results mean for the farmer or village context at large. Use the same internal structure for
activities like Agronomy, Plant Protection, Soil Health, Horticulture, Post-harvest, Animal
Production and Extension activities so the reader can compare sections easily. Photographs
should be numbered plates with captions giving date and place; include the best images in the
body and place bulk images in the photographic annexure.
Maintain a formal, readable style: use complete sentences, avoid jargon or define technical
terms at first use, prefer passive voice for actions performed, and be precise with tenses (past
tense for fieldwork done, present tense for established facts). Use Times New Roman 12 pt
with 1.5 line spacing on A4 paper with standard margins. Proofread numerical values,
captions and cross-references carefully to avoid inconsistencies. Number tables and figures
by chapter (for example Table 3.2) and supply units and conversion notes (e.g., 1 bigha =
0.13 ha). The report should synthesize field and industry learning in a conclusions or
synthesis chapter that highlights integrated recommendations, priority actions for farmers and
extension agencies, and any feasible follow-ups. References and citations must follow a
consistent academic style (APA). All raw data, filled schedules, soil test reports, specimen
lists, demonstration attendance sheets and lab receipts belong in the Annexures and should be
indexed and cross-referenced from the main text. Always refer to the relevant annexure
number when you summarise a point in the main text.
Attribute all secondary data sources (Patwari, Gram Panchayat, KVK) in a References section
and ensure any quotations or borrowed text are cited to avoid plagiarism. Conclude the report
with a consolidated Summary and Conclusion chapter that synthesises the major findings
across activities, prioritises practical recommendations for farmers and extension agencies.
Before submission, check that the observation diary, specimen logs and demo attendance
sheets are attached, that all required signatures are present, and that you submit both a printed
copy and a soft copy with raw data files (Excel and photographs). A carefully organised,
evidence-backed report is both an academic document and a useful extension tool for the
communities you worked with.
Finally, a sample structure of the report is attached herewith for your reference and use — it
illustrates the front matter (cover, certificates, acknowledgement), the chapter-wise layout for
the eight RAWE activities and unit/AIA attachments, the format for tables/figures/plates, and
the Annexures checklist.

Chapter I. Introduction
In this chapter, you are required to provide a concise overview of the Rural Agricultural Work
Experience (RAWE) and Agro-Industrial Attachment (AIA) programme. Clearly state the
objectives of the programme, emphasizing aspects such as understanding rural realities,
developing problem-solving skills, and gaining practical exposure to farmers’ practices and
agro-industrial systems.
You should also include a description of the components of RAWE and AIA, namely village
attachment, unit attachment, plant clinic, agro-industrial attachment. Mention the total
duration, credit load, and the structure of activities. This section must set the tone for the rest
of the report by showing how the subsequent chapters align with the overall objectives and
scope of the RAWE programme.
Chapter II: Village Attachment
In this chapter, describe your experience during the village attachment. Begin with general
observations about the village environment and the nature of agricultural activities. Highlight
your day-to-day involvement in farming operations, interactions with farm families, and the
learning outcomes.
II.A About the Host Farmer(s)
Give a profile of the host farmer(s) where you were attached. Mention family background,
farm size, cropping pattern, livestock resources, and socio-economic status and any relevant
information. Discuss how they supported your learning and the role they played in guiding
you through practical activities.
II.B District and Host Village Profile
Write about the socio-economic and agro-ecological profile of the district and village. Include
geographical location, population, literacy, occupation, land use, irrigation, cropping pattern,
infrastructure, and agricultural development programmes implemented.
II.C–II.J Activities I–VIII
For each activity, provide a clear and structured report. Mention what you observed, the
methods you used for data collection (survey schedules, interactions, demonstrations), what
results you obtained, and your reflections. Highlight the constraints, innovative practices, and
recommendations wherever applicable. The raw data should be presented in the appendices
section.
Activity I: Orientation and Survey of Village – Describe baseline surveys and
orientation.
Activity II: Agronomic Interventions – Write about crop practices, demonstrations,
and results.
Activity III: Plant Protection Interventions – Record pest/disease surveys,
practices, and interventions.
Activity IV: Soil Improvement Interventions – Summarize soil sampling, testing,
SHCs, and INM practices.
Activity V: Fruit and Vegetable Production Interventions – Describe
orchard/vegetable observations and demonstrations.
Activity VI: Food Processing and Storage Interventions – Explain post-harvest
practices, storage structures, and value-addition.
Activity VII: Animal Production Interventions – Write about livestock
management, health practices, and productivity.
Activity VIII: Extension and Transfer of Technology Activities – Record extension
methods (meetings, demonstrations, campaigns) and farmers’ responses.
Chapter III: Unit Attachment
In this section, describe your experience during attachment to KVK/ARS/University unit.
Write about the activities observed, experiments demonstrated, technologies learnt, and
interactions with scientists or extension personnel. Highlight how this exposure
complemented your village-level learnings.
Chapter IV: Plant Clinic
Write about the plant clinic activities conducted during RAWE. Include the process of
diagnosis (symptoms, sample collection), identification of pests/diseases, and advisory given
to farmers. Record the number and type of cases handled and reflect on the importance of
plant clinics in farmer support.
Chapter V: Agro-Industrial Attachment (AIA)
In this chapter, provide details of your in-plant training experience. Write about the
industry/unit visited, products and processes observed, equipment used, and the
organization’s structure. Include your observations on quality control, marketing, and
entrepreneurship opportunities. Conclude with the practical lessons you learnt from the
industrial exposure.
Chapter VI: Summary and Conclusion
Summarize your overall RAWE & AIA experience. Highlight the key findings, skills
developed, and challenges faced. Conclude by discussing how the programme has enhanced
your understanding of rural realities and prepared you for professional agricultural extension
and agribusiness roles.
Chapter VII: References
Provide a list of references used in your report. This may include textbooks, manuals,
government reports, journal articles, or websites. Follow a consistent citation style (APA).
Chapter VIII: Annexures
Include supporting documents such as filled survey schedules, soil health cards,
demonstration records, farmer attendance sheets, and any other materials used during RAWE.
Chapter IX: Photographic Evidences
Add photographs of your activities in the village, unit attachment, plant clinic, and AIA.
Ensure each photograph has a caption (date, place, activity, people involved).
Chapter X: Appendices
Include supplementary material such as field diary, charts, large data tables, or extended
reports that could not be accommodated in the main text. Ensure each appendix is properly
numbered and referenced in the main body of the report.
