Project Title:
InternWise: Smart Internship & OJT Tracker with Career Assistant
Track Selection
● Academic Track: Student Management & Career Development Systems
Project Overview
1. Problem Statement
Thousands of students across Philippine universities struggle with managing their
internship and On-the-Job Training (OJT) requirements, leading to missed opportunities,
late submissions, and suboptimal career preparation. Current challenges include:
Document Management Crisis: Students lose track of internship requirements like
resumes, MOAs, and clearances, causing last-minute scrambles and missed deadlines.
Information Overload: Students struggle to find matching internships due to scattered
opportunities across multiple platforms.
Skill Gap Blindness: Many students are unaware of industry-required skills until
application time, leading to rejections and missed growth opportunities.
Application Tracking Chaos: Students applying to multiple companies lack organized
ways to track statuses, schedules, and interviews, leading to missed opportunities.
Mission: To build a smart, user-friendly platform that simplifies internship search and
management while preparing students for career success.
2. Solution Description
I propose InternWise, a comprehensive mobile and web application that leverages
artificial intelligence to revolutionize how students manage their internship journey. The
solution provides:
Core Management Features:
● Smart Document Hub: Centralized repository where students can upload,
organize, and track all internship-related documents. The system automatically
categorizes documents, checks for completeness, and sends reminders for
expiring certificates or missing requirements.
● Intelligent Deadline Management: AI-powered notification system that learns
from student behavior patterns to send personalized reminders at optimal times.
The system considers document preparation time, company response patterns,
and individual student schedules.
● Application Tracker: Comprehensive dashboard showing all applications with
status indicators (pending, accepted, rejected)
AI-Powered Discovery & Matching:
● Smart Opportunity Matching: Machine learning algorithms analyze student
profiles (major, GWA, skills, location preferences, career interests) against
internship requirements to recommend the most suitable opportunities. The system
learns from successful placements to improve recommendations over time.
● Intelligent Filtering & Search: Advanced search capabilities that go beyond basic
keyword matching. Students can filter opportunities based on learning objectives,
company culture, required skills, compensation, and career trajectory potential.
Career Development Intelligence:
● Skill Gap Analysis – The system uses AI to compare a student’s skills with what
companies need, then shows which skills are missing and suggests what to learn,
when to learn it, and where to find resources.
● Learning Path Generator: Creates personalized development plans linking to
online courses, certifications, workshops, and extracurricular activities that address
identified skill gaps.
Why It’s Unique & Impactful:
● All-in-One Platform: Eliminates the need for multiple tools by combining
document management, opportunity discovery, skill development, and application
tracking
● AI-Powered Personalization: Every feature adapts to individual student needs
and learning patterns
● Comprehensive Solution: Handles the entire internship lifecycle from discovery to
completion
● Mobile-First Approach: Accessible anytime, anywhere through intuitive mobile
interface

Additional Information
7. Challenges and Risks
a. Data Privacy and Security The application collects sensitive student information
including academic records, personal details, and career preferences. Without proper
security measures, this creates significant privacy risks.
Mitigation:
● Implement end-to-end encryption for data transmission and storage
● Obtain explicit consent with clear privacy policies in simple language
● Use role-based access controls and regular security audits
● Allow students to view, edit, or delete their personal data
● Store sensitive data separately from analytical datasets
b. Algorithmic Bias and Fairness AI recommendation systems may unintentionally favor
certain student groups based on historical data, potentially reinforcing existing inequalities
in internship opportunities.
Mitigation:
● Design transparent, explainable recommendation algorithms
● Test models with diverse student profiles to identify bias
● Include fairness constraints in AI model training
● Allow students to understand and challenge their AI-generated scores
● Collect diverse training data across different demographics and universities
c. Technical and Integration Risks System may face scalability issues, API integration
failures, or performance problems as user base grows.
Mitigation:
● Use cloud infrastructure with auto-scaling capabilities
● Implement robust error handling and fallback mechanisms
● Design microservices architecture for independent component scaling
● Regular load testing and performance monitoring
● Start with manual data entry and gradually integrate external systems
d. User Adoption and Data Quality Students may resist adopting new technology, and
maintaining accurate internship data requires continuous verification.
Mitigation:
● Partner with university career centers for institutional support
● Create intuitive interfaces requiring minimal learning curve
● Implement user reporting systems for data accuracy
● Develop student ambassador programs for peer-to-peer adoption
● Design automated data validation and quality checking systems
e. Digital Accessibility Not all students have equal access to smartphones or reliable
internet, potentially excluding disadvantaged populations.
Mitigation:
● Design responsive web interface accessible from basic devices
● Implement core offline functionality
● Partner with universities to provide computer lab access
● Create SMS-based notifications for low-connectivity users
● Ensure compliance with accessibility standards for disabled users
