PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
Leaners are familiar with the holy book of Islam

CONTENT
AL-QURAN
The holy Qur’an is a very important book that contains nothing but the word of Allah. It is the main source of
education, the light and the guide to all Muslims
Revelation is the communication from Almighty Allah to mankind. It is the means through which Almighty
Allah message to human being (mostly) through the prophets.
Some of the revelations that were recorded are:
(a) At-taurat of prophet Musa
(b) Az-Zabur of prophet Dawud
(c) Al-Injil of prophet Isa
(d) Al-Qur’an of prophet Muhammad
BEGINNING REVELATION OF THE QUR’AN
Prior to Muhammad prophet hood, he used to withdraw to cave Hira near Makkah to meditate and also
keep away from the noise and corruption in the town. During one of these visit in 610 ce, Angel Jubril
appeared to him and ask him to read, he was pressed for the third time to read. Qur’an 96:1-5

5. He taught man what he did not know”


THE LAST REVELATION
The last portion of the holy Qur’an to be revealed is chapter 2verse 281 which says:

PRESERVATION OF THE HOLY QUR’AN


Almighty Allah promised to safe guide the Qur’an from falsehood and interpolation. The prophet with his
companions adopted various methods in preserving the message of Quran whenever they were revealed.
The methods include:
1. Memorization by the prophet
2. Memorization by the companions
3. Public recitation
4. Recording

PRESENTATION
STEP 1: The teacher presents the topic under consideration and define al-Qur’an
STEP 2: The learners are guided to mention some revelations that were recorded
STEP 3: The learners are guided to enumerate the beginning and the last revelation
STEP 4: The learners are guided to explain the preservation of the holy Qur’an
STEP 5: The teacher summarizes the entire concept to the learners.

SUMMARY
Teacher goes over the following points summarily:
1. Definition of al-Qur’an
2. some revelations that were recorded
3. Beginning and the last revelation

2. Explain the standardization of al-Qur’an
3. State the importance of al-Qur’an

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
Learners had been taught the origin of the revelation of the holy Qur’an.

CONTENT
COMPILATION OF THE HOLY QUR’AN
RECORDING OF AL-QUR’AN
During the time of the prophet, the Qur’an was written down in different available materials like:
1. Animal skill
2. Leather
3. Bone of animals
4. Palm leaves
5. Sticks e.t.c
After the death of prophet, materials on which Qur’an was written were gathered and tied together to
ensure that they do not lose.
REASONS FOR COMPILATION
The need for compiling into single book arose as a result of the death of “Afiz” (Qur’an memorizer) in the
battle of Yammahin 633 c.e.
Umar bin Khattab feared possible extinction of the Qur’an if vagrant measures were not taking, he therefore
advise Caliph Abu-Bakr to compile the Qur’an into a single volume which was done by the chief secretary
(Zaid bin Tabit) These was achieved 7years after the death of prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). The Qur’an was
kept with caliph Abu-Bakr and later passed to Umar and hs daughter Haysah.
STANDARDIZATION OF THE HOLY QUR’AN
These materials were kept in the prophet’s house and later passed from one regime to the other until the
time of caliph Uthman when it was standardized. Allah gives due protection to the Qur’an against loss and
interpretation.
IMPORTANCE OF THE HOLY QUR’AN
[A] Qur’an is the source of guidance
[i] It helps to know about the existence and purpose of all creatures.
[ii] It helps to know about the nature of God as the Supreme Being who cannot be seen but sees.
[iii] It tells us about the Angels prophets, vice genesis of man and about his accountability to Allah on the Day
of Judgment.
[B] QURAN IS A NATURAL BOOK OF WORHSIP AND LIVING.
I. Its content is used for daily supplication.
ii. It teaches man how to marry to train children and dealing with parents.
iii. It teaches man how to worship, trade and relate with one another.
Iv. It makes dear the reward of good as distinct from that of bad behaviours.
[C] The Quran is an authentic source of history.
i. It contains records of the past occurrence and history and account of life and deeds of some personalities
such as prophet of God.
ii. The message are relevant to all period.
iii. It is never edited or tampered with.
iv. It contain what was left out with in earlier revelation or acknowledge earlier revealed books prophet.
v. It is comprehensive, since it covers all aspects of life.
vi. It is a cure of ills and diseases.

PRESENTATION

STEP 3: The learners are guided to explain the standardization of al-Qur’an
STEP 4: The learners are guided to state the importance of al-Qur’an
