COMPUTER LABORATORY GUIDELINES

Applicability
This policy is applicable to all staff members, enrolled students, and faculty members who
are scheduled to use the computer laboratories at SLTCFI. This includes:
• Teachers and Instructors: Responsible for supervising students, ensuring proper
use of the lab and its equipment, and maintaining discipline.
• Students: Enrolled students who use the computer lab for academic purposes and
must adhere to the rules and procedures outlined.
• Trainees: Individuals participating in training programs who must follow the same
guidelines as regular students.
• Facility and Technical Department Staff: Responsible for the maintenance and
management of the computer lab and ensuring compliance with the policy.

Purpose
This policy aims to maintain order, cleanliness, and safety in the computer labs. It protects
both users and equipment, ensuring responsible and effective use of technology to
support the educational mission of the institution.

Procedures
The following are standards by which Facility Department will evaluate compliance with
this policy.

1) Preparation for Computer Instruction


a) Teacher should review computer instructions prior to class for efficient use
of the computers.
b) The teacher must establish a seating arrangement for his/her class.
c) Teacher must remain in the lab at all times and he/she is responsible for
discipline of the class.
d) Teacher must submit a report for any computer with missing or damaged
hardware or peripherals to Facility & Technical Department Office.
e) Only enrolled students are allowed the use of Computer Laboratory.
Students without teacher and without schedules are not allowed to enter
and use the computers in the laboratory.
f) Regular students must wear school uniform with school ID during laboratory
periods.
g) Trainees must wear their Training IDs in the laboratory too.

2) General Procedures
a) Bags, particularly cellphone, USB flash drives, headset and other media
paraphernalia are strictly prohibited in workstations, unless requested,
approved and signed by the teacher and the Facility Manager.
b) Chewing gum, food, or drinks are not allowed in the computer lab or
anywhere near a computer.
c) Do not remove anything from the computer laboratory without permission
from the Facility & Technical Department.
d) Do not remove or alter any tags and barcodes affixed to the computer units
to ensure proper identification and tracking.
e) Do not touch, connect or disconnect any plug or cable without your
laboratory technician’s permission.
f) Students should not attempt to repair, open, tamper or interfere with any of
the computer, printing, cabling, air conditioning or other equipment in the
laboratory.
g) Do not open the system unit casing or monitor casing particularly when the
power is turned on.
h) Do not insert metal objects such as clips, pins and needles into the
computer casings. They may cause fire.
i) Teachers should report any non-functioning technology equipment to the
Facility and Technical Department and log it into the provided logbook.
j) Report any broken plugs or exposed electrical wires to the Facility and
Technical Department and log it into the provided logbook.

k) Report fires or accidents to Facility and Technical staff immediately.


l) After class in computer labs, make sure to clean the whiteboard, turn off the
TV, check if all units are properly turned off and call the attention of the
Technical Staff or Security Guard to lock the Laboratory. Doors to computer
labs must be locked when not in use.
m) Do not misbehave in the computer laboratory.
n) Please treat fellow users of the laboratory, and all equipment within the
laboratory, with the appropriate level of care and respect.
o) The Facility Manager has the authority to restrict lab access from any patron
who abuses the Student Computer Lab procedures

3) Computer Rules
a) Internet use is limited to teacher assigned activities or classwork.
b) Teachers are expected to closely monitor student activity by frequent screen
checks. If using the Internet – use URL’s that you have visited and have
found to be appropriate for the assignment and student’s age.
c) Personal Internet use for Facebook, Yahoo, Messenger and other social
media and gaming sites is strictly prohibited.
d) Do not download or install any programs, games, or music.
e) Do not personalize the computer settings. (This includes desktop, screen
saver, etc.)
f) If by mistake you get to an inappropriate Internet site, turn off your monitor
immediately and raise your hand.
g) Students must close all open windows, applications, and log out before
leaving the lab.
h) Do not exchange units to different places; if necessary, please seek
assistance from the technician.
i) Properly shutdown the computer unit, power supply (AVR/UPS) and lights.
j) Always leave the workspace clean and neat when finished. Properly
arranged the chairs on their corresponding position before leaving the
laboratory.

4) In case of emergency:
a) Remain Calm: Stay composed to think clearly and act effectively.
b) Alert Authorities: Notify the nearest teacher, technician, or security
personnel immediately.
c) Evacuate: Follow the designated evacuation route and head to the
assembly point if required.
d) Do Not Use Equipment: Refrain from using computers or electrical devices
during an emergency.
e) Assist Others: Help those who need assistance, especially those with
disabilities or injuries.
f) Stay Informed: Listen to instructions from authorities and follow them
promptly.
g) Report Hazards: Inform the authorities of any potential hazards, such as fire
or electrical issues.
