FPZ flow converting valves are used to change the direction of air. Flow
converting devices can change from vacuum to pressure or vice versa
virtually instantaneously (0.10 seconds). Air can also be rerouted to
different lines depending on system requirements. The valves can be
mounted directly to the blower or they can be mounted in-line.

All valves are constructed from aluminium alloy. The valves can be
actuated with 24VDC, 115VAC, 220VAC, or pneumatically. Pneumatic
valves can be actuated with single or double acting pneumatic drives.
Double acting pneumatic drives can operate in a neutral position. Air
requirements for pneumatic drives are 60 – 145 psig.

The selector acts on special teflon segments which ensure that the
chambers are efficiently sealed. There is little friction or wear. The
Flow converting device with electromagnet selector is repositioned with a spring.

The VRL valves are designed to protect blowers and / or motors

from over pressurization or excess vacuum. When there is over
pressurization, the valve opens and discharges to the outside.
When there is excess in vacuum, the valve opens and takes flow
from outside.
The valve have been designed for low pressure / low vacuum, with
minimal difference between the initial value at which the valve
begins to open and its fully-opened position. The valves are
supplied with 2 different springs to maximize its efficiency.
These compact valves, made of aluminum alloy, are both easy to
install and calibrate. The valves are designed to operate in a wide
range of capacities. The VRL can be plumbed to divert excess
primary flow through a secondary external outlet when working in
pressure conditions or to pipe-in a secondary flow when working in
vacuum.
Maximum efficiency is achieved by keeping operating values (flow V RL6 V RL8 V RL9
versus pressure or vacuum) within the operating range (shaded
area on graph). Capacity refers to air having a density equal to
0.075 lbs./[Link] .

Installation
Standard FPZ blowers are designed for handling air only. Alternate designs are available for
handling certain gasses. Contact the factory for more information.

Most blowers listed in this catalog can be mounted in any orientation. Some belt driven and direct
coupled blowers cannot be mounted in any orientation. Contact the factory for specific mounting
requirements for belt driven models.

FPZ blowers create little vibration, however, rubber feet (or other vibration absorption material) and a
flexible connection are recommended.

Ambient Temperature
Blowers should be installed in ambient temperatures between +5O F (-15O C) and +105O F (40O C).
High temperature blowers are available – contact the factory for more information. Make sure the
blower is installed in a well-ventilated area to avoid overheating.

Wiring
Make sure that the supply voltage is correct and the blower is wired for the supply voltage. FPZ
blowers come with a wiring diagram located on the inside cover of the terminal box.

An arrow located on the fan cover indicates the proper rotation of the blower (clockwise when viewed
from the motor ). All three-phase models can have the rotation changed by switching any two of the
main power leads.

Multi voltage motors leave the factory wired for high voltage.

Vacuum / Pressure Capabilities

It is important that blowers do not operate above their maximum vacuum / pressure ratings. The
performance curves listed in this catalog indicate a minimum amount of airflow that must pass
through the blower to prevent overheating. The minimum airflow occurs at the blower’s maximum
vacuum or maximum pressure. A properly installed relief valve will prevent the blower from over
pressurizing. The electric motor amperage should also be checked upon installation as it may
determine if the blower is operating above its maximum capabilities.

Plumbing
The plumbing should be at least the same size as the blower port or ideally one size larger to
minimize friction losses. Try to minimize the number of elbows used. Avoid using rigid connections
that will induce stress and cause harmful vibrations. Support the weight of all plumbing connections.

Barometric pressure varies in direct proportion to altitude.

Example #1 – If a blower is required to deliver 2 psig at 5000 feet, what pressure at standard air is required?
Pressure = 29.92 / 24.89 x 2 = 2.4 psig

Example #2 – If a blower is required to deliver 2 psig at standard air, what pressure will it deliver at 5000 feet?
Pressure = 24.89 / 29.92 x 2 = 1.66 psig
