■ Introduction to the Portfolio
This portfolio is a collection of my learning experiences and projects in Social Science for
Class 9. It includes my understanding of History, Geography, Political Science, and
Economics, along with creative activities and research work that helped me understand
society and the world better.
■ About the Subject
Social Science helps us understand human society, history, geography, governance, and
economics. It teaches us how societies evolve, how governments function, and how
people interact with the environment and economy.
■ Political Science Project – Democracy and Its Features
Democracy is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. It gives
citizens the right to vote and choose their representatives. It ensures equality, liberty, and
justice, and allows freedom of expression while protecting human rights. Examples include
India, the world’s largest democracy.
■ History Project – The French Revolution
The French Revolution began in 1789. Causes included social inequality, taxation on the
poor, and monarchy’s lavish spending. Key events were the Fall of Bastille, Declaration of
Rights of Man and Citizen, and the end of monarchy. It spread the ideas of liberty,
equality, and fraternity worldwide.
■ Geography Project – India: Size and Location
India lies entirely in the Northern Hemisphere between latitudes 8°4'N and 37°6'N and
longitudes 68°7'E and 97°25'E. It is the 7th largest country, bordered by Pakistan, China,
Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. The Tropic of Cancer passes through the
center of the country.
■ Economics Project – The Story of Village Palampur
Palampur is a model village showing the organization of production. The four factors of
production are land, labour, capital, and entrepreneurship. Farming is the main
occupation, but non-farming activities like dairy, shopkeeping, and transport also support
livelihoods.
■ Current Affairs – Impact of Digital India on Rural Development
The Digital India initiative has improved internet access, online education, and digital
payments in rural areas. Villagers can now use government services online, promoting
transparency and self-reliance.
■ Reflection / Learning Outcomes
Through this portfolio, I learned the importance of equality and justice in democracy, how
revolutions bring social change, India’s geographical diversity, and how rural development
supports the economy. I also understood how history, geography, politics, and economics
are connected.
