2.PRESENTATION
The PRYSMIAN Group has an industrial plant in Argentina where cables are manufactured.
dry insulation up to the level of 220kV.
To complement the cable manufacturing activity, PRYSMIAN has in Argentina a
specialized section whose main purpose is to supervise the installation project of a
high voltage system, supervise the installation and laying of cables in the field, and carry out the
assembly of accessories (joints, terminals, and components), up to 220kV.
3. OBJECTIVE
This procedure establishes and defines the general rules and recommendations for the correct
management and installation of Prysmian Cables and Accessories. The information in this document does not
necessarily represents the entirety of the requirements for the proper management of this process and
it may be supplemented by specific procedures and instructions for each work in
specific.
4. SCOPE
This procedure provides the general guidelines for the installation of high cables
subterranean high voltage dry insulation (XLPE) and its corresponding accessories. The same
principles can be applied to all cable families.
5. GENERALITIES
It is necessary to handle and install the cables properly to avoid damaging them.
the qualities that have provided them with delicate craftsmanship, resulting in abundant and
meticulous experiments, calculations, laboratory processes, appropriate selection of raw materials
use of complex and expensive machinery and rigorous quality controls.
Una manipulación incorrecta puede ocasionar perjuicios considerables que pueden ser detectados,
in the most serious cases, at the time of commissioning and in any case leave
reduced qualities, so that they significantly shorten the lifespan of the cables.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES
The end customer, companies are involved in the application of this procedure.
contratistas de obra, personal operativo de instalaciones.
7. DESCRIPTION
Every executive project is consolidated with the relaying of the proposed traces, and the execution of
surveys conducted by the Client. This way, the existing installations are verified.
effects of not causing inconveniences to other services and obstacles and depths are confirmed
to define the scope of the civil works to be executed.
The civil work of the pipelines can consist of several alternatives such as:
Installation of cables directly buried in a trench.
Installation of cables within conduits protected by a concrete mass.
Installation of overhead cables inside channels or tunnels supported by steel hangers.
properly secured by appropriate clamps for that purpose.
Along the projected paths, there will always be different obstacles to overcome.
greater or lesser difficulty such as rivers, streams, highways, railroads, gas pipelines,
electrical ducts, etc.
In each particular case, PRYSMIAN will analyze the degree of difficulty while always respecting the
installation requirements of the different Regulatory Bodies (Hydraulics, Road Infrastructure, Transport and
Energy) and also verifying that the minimum cable traction efforts are respected.
during the lays and the minimum curvature radii.
All calculations and verifications that PRYSMIAN carries out on the installation will be based
exclusively about the information included in the project plans provided by the CLIENT,
this is interference, variations in depths, parallelism with power cables, length of
the trace, etc.
When moving the cable reels, you must be careful and ensure that the equipment and accessories
used for their movement do not make contact with the surface of the cable and with the sides of
the coil. Below is the correct / incorrect way of handling:

7.4.5 Tapada
The topsoil layers above the pipeline should be kept free of stones or
debris. In any case, it should be noted that a large amount of small
stones or rubble can raise the thermal resistivity of the ground and consequently decrease the
transmission power of the cable.
In any case, and from this last point of view, it should be compacted appropriately.

during its rotation. The elevation of this with respect to the ground should be about 10 to 15cm.
The cats will be mounted on the spool holders.
8.3 Unpacking
When removing the protective strips or plates, care should be taken to do so in such a way that neither they nor the
element used to unstaple them may damage the cable. All must be removed
nails that may remain on the side plates of the reels once the boards are removed.
Low temperatures create difficulties in laying cables, also influenced by the type.
of designed cable and the installation site.
For cables with an external PE sheath; it can be installed safely, if it was not
subjected to temperatures below (-10°C), in the 24 hours prior to laying in
that region. Special attention should be paid to the 24-hour period prior to the laying.
cable doubling. If the temperature is below the indicated value (-10 °C), inside
of those 24 hours, provisions should be made to place the cable reel in an appropriate location and
air-conditioned (tent with canvas cover, heated to (+15°C), for 24 hours), so that
subsequently, the laying and installation will be carried out.
During the laying operations, the sliding of the cable will be facilitated by the placement of
rollers prepared for this purpose. These rollers will allow easy rolling in order to limit the
shooting effort; they will have an appropriate base that, with or without anchoring, prevents them from tipping over
and a throat that limits the cable to prevent it from coming out or falling from the roller.
They will be spaced apart, according to the characteristics of the cable (mainly weight and stiffness.
mechanics), generally 1 every 3m, never at a greater distance, thus facilitating the sliding of the
cable, especially in curves and direction changes, so that no gap is allowed
pronunciation of the cable between adjacent rollers, which would lead to harmful undulations.
This placement will be especially studied at the points of the route where there are changes of
direction, where in addition to the rollers that facilitate sliding, other should be arranged
vertically to avoid the strain of the cable against the edge of the trench when changing direction.
In these points, it should be taken into account that the arrangement of rollers does not allow a radius of
dynamic curvature lower than 30 times the diameter of the cable. The static curvature radius does not
It must be more than 20 times the diameter.
