I am writing this reference at the request of Mr. Nguyen Hung Viet who is
applying for the master program at University of Bonn.
I have known Viet for over four years in my capacity as Head of the Department of
Data Communication and Computer Networks at Hanoi University of Science and
Technology based in Hanoi, Vietnam. As a student, Viet excelled in almost all
subjects, being an alert and active participant in class and a delight to teach. Viet
has proven to be a responsible person who is able to develop projects and
implement them. It has been a pleasure to know Viet, whom I have kept in close
contact and can attest to his academic, English ability and character both at
university and outside. Viet is a very pleasant and mature student with the
necessary disposition, skills and knowledge to undertake this program in Germany.
This program offers Viet the opportunity to enhance his knowledge and
understanding of Computer Science that would be of value to Vietnam.
In addition to Viet’s outstanding academic record having graduated with a GPA of
3.22, he actively engaged in many extracurricular activities, demonstrating his
teambuilding, organizational and motivational skills. His activities included but
were not limited to being a teaching assistant at university, assisting lecturers in
organizing classes as well as counseling sophomores and juniors, and volunteering
for university events and charities. While being involved in many extracurricular
projects, he did not lose focus on his study, with three successive scholarships
awarded by the University to top students being the strongest evidence.
I therefore would highly recommend Mr. Nguyen Hung Viet for this master
program, as he would offer a different perspective from a Vietnamese standpoint.

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Mr. Nguyen Hung Viet (Family name:
Nguyen; First name: Viet) for his application to the master program at your
university. Mr. Nguyen was a student whose undergraduate thesis I had the
pleasure to supervise and his performance was excellent.
With a strong desire to improve his ability and his exceptional learning talent, Mr.
Nguyen was one of the best students in his class based on my many years of
teaching and observation experience at Hanoi University of Science and
Technology. He demonstrated complete understanding of the course materials
and usually topped the class with the highest test scores. For two semesters his
performance was ranked in the top three percent of the whole department.
Mr. Nguyen is also one of the most responsible and self-reliant students I have
ever met. During his final semester preparing for the graduate thesis, he always
submitted assignments on time while maintaining the highest quality of work. He
is a leadership figure to his peers and a person to depend on to his classmates.
Besides, Mr. Nguyen has shown creativity, adaptability and patience not only in
his study but also in everyday life. He has a passion for paper crafts and
participated in many exhibitions to share his intricate creations. I can confidently
confirm that he has an excellent command of both written and spoken English, as
well as the analytical and research skills necessary to pursue a Master’s degree
abroad.
