1 Overview
This document provides basic instructions about installing and commissioning PWC600.
2 Engineering application
2.1 Get the circuit breaker operating times by routine test.
2.2 PCM600 is the protection and control IED manager of ABB. We configure the module of
circuit breaker via PCM600.
2.2.1 Open the Registry Editor of windows as follows. Find “PendingfileRenameOperations”
and delete it.
2.2.2 Find the”PCM600 [Link]”or“PCM600 [Link]”, right click the application, seclect “Run
as administrator”. Install the application with the wizard.

2.2.3 Install the connectivity package and Module.
Find the file of “ABB Switchsync PWC600 IED Connectivity Package Ver.
[Link].msi” ,double click the msi and click with the wizard.
Find the file of “ABB Switchsync PWC600 1.0.1 [Link],double click the msi and click
with the wizard.
2.3 Build the IED module.
2.3.1 Double click the software PCM2.9. Find the “file” item and click, choose the “New
Project”, fill in a project name.
2.3.2Find the new project created at previous step, right click and choose as follows: New-
General-Substation. At last, create the substation module.

2.3.3 Right click the new substation module and choose as follows: New-General-Voltage
level. At last,create a voltage module.
2.3.4Right click the Voltage,and choose as follows: New-General-Bay. Create a bay
module.

2.3.5Right click the Voltage,and choose as follows: New-Create from Template.
Then look at the popup window, choose the”PWC600-M_101_IEC” and click “create”. at
last, the IED module is build successfully.
2.4 Choose the IED mudule,right click and choose “Switchsync Setting Tool”. Now
we try to configurate the parameter.

Milestone 1:Power System. Fill in the system voltage and battery voltage(control
voltage),choose the system frequency.
Milestone 2:System time. Set the Daylight saving time and time zone depend on the
location of project. For example, daylight saving time is not suitable for china so that the
begin and end is same.

Milestone 3:Breaker control. Choose the controlled operations according to
requirement.
Milestone 4: Model selection. Do selection as follows.

page 1: Load specification. Choose the type of load.
Page2: And make the controlled swithing strategy. Choose the yes to make sure do
the modify.

Page3: Modification of controlled closing strategy. Click the “fixed(L1)” to make L1
as the first phase to close. Type in the current making targets as show below.
Milestone 6:
Page 1:source voltage transformer. Make sure the parameter of voltage transformer do
choice as follows.

Page 2:current transformer. Make sure the current transformer ratio depends on
drawings of project.
Page 3 and page 4: keep the default usually.

Milestone 7:Adaptive correction. Keep the default or choose “disable” usually.

Milestone 8: Compensation sensor selection. Keep the default usually.
Milestone 9: Alarms enabling:controlled switching. Keep the default usually. Do not
choose anything and click “Next” directly.
Milestone 10: Time synchronization:Source. Click the “Next” directly.
Milestone 11: Type in the Mechanical closing times and Mechanical opening times of
three phases. At last, click the “Finish”.

2.5 Finish the wring work according to drawing(2GTA171798,REV C). Connect PC and
PWC600 by ethernet cable(RJ45). The interface of PWC600 displays as follows.

Power the IED,make sure the IED start noemally.
2.6 Back to the PCM600. Right click the PWC600 module and choose” Set Technical
Key”. Unify the technical key of IED and PWC600 module.
If the pop up a windows about security warning, just click trust.
2.7 After completed the operation above, right click the PWC600 module and choose
“Write to IED”. There will be a popup area that display the statue of process. When
you see the comment “success”, it means everything is ok.
3 Now you can do the commissioning work to vertify the breaker performance.
