SEMESTER- I [Link]. (ECE)
Assignment-1 (Sep. 2025)
EC101- Basic Electronics & Communication Engineering
Max. Marks: 20
Note: Answer all questions. Assume suitable missing data, if any.

1. What names are applied to the two types of BJT transistors? Sketch the basic construction of
each and label the various minority and majority carriers in each. Draw the graphic symbol next
to each. Is any of this information altered by changing from a silicon to a germanium base? (CO1)

2. a) Given an  of 0.998, determine IC if IE is 4 mA. (b) Determine  if IE = 2.8 mA and IB is 20 A.

(c) Find IE if IB =40 A and is  =0.98. (CO1)
(b) Explain the working principle of CE amplifier with neat sketch (CO2)

3. (a) For the common-emitter characteristics of Fig below, find the dc beta at an operating point of
VCE=8 V and IC =2 mA.
(b) Find the value of  corresponding to this operating point. (c) At VCE=8 V, find the corresponding
value of ICEO.
(d) Calculate the approximate value of ICBO using the dc beta value obtained in part (a).(CO2)

4. Determine the levels of ICQ and VCEQ for the voltage-divider configuration of fig below
using the exact and approximate techniques and compare solutions (CO1)
5. (a) Draw the basic construction of a p-channel JFET.
(b) Apply the proper biasing between drain and source and sketch the depletion region for VGS =0
Volts (CO1)
6. A silicon diode has a forward voltage drop of 0.7 V. Calculate the current flowing through the diode
if the input voltage is 10 V and the resistor in series is 1 kΩ. (CO1)

7. A half-wave rectifier is connected to a 240 V, 50 Hz AC supply. If the transformer provides a peak

secondary voltage of 50 V and a load resistance of 500 Ω is connected to the output, determine the
average DC output voltage and the peak current through the load. (CO1)

8. In a full-wave bridge rectifier circuit, the AC supply provides a peak voltage of 100 V, and the load
resistance is 1 kΩ. Calculate the peak inverse voltage (PIV) across each diode and the average DC
output voltage across the load. (CO1)

9. In a series clipper circuit with a diode and a resistor, the input AC signal has a peak voltage of 15 V.
The diode has a forward voltage drop of 0.7 V. If the clipper is set to clip positive peaks, determine
the output waveform and the voltage at which clipping occurs. (CO1)

10. A clamper circuit is designed with a capacitor, a diode, and a resistor. The input AC peak-to-peak
voltage of 20 V. If the circuit is configured to clamp the negative peaks of the waveform to 0 V,
explain the operation of the circuit and calculate the output waveform. (CO1)
