INTRODUCTION:
ISO 19650 Information Management is a document that establishes the
recommended concepts and principles for business processes in the
construction sector, being a support for management and production of
information during the lifecycle of constructed assets when it
uses BIM. Document designed to allow a contracting party
establish your information requirements during the development phase of the
assets.
ISO 19650 is a standard that sets the guidelines for the management of
information for construction. Likewise, it is a way to enhance the
digital transformation of the construction industry (BIM). Define the
collaborative processes for the effective management of information throughout the
operational phase and asset delivery. ISO 19650 has been built on
the high-level principles and requirements such as BIM Level 2 and is closely
aligned with current standards PAS 1192. Initially introduced for
encourage a common language of BIM and influence professionals in the environment
built to adopt BIM, the benefits of these standards have now been
more widely recognized, having been adopted internationally
from the Middle East to Australia. The publication of ISO 19650 creates a
opportunity for international organizations that collaborate on projects
to minimize inefficient activities and increase predictability of
cost and duration, through a common approach to management of the
information. For those who work locally, it represents an opportunity
1
to demonstrate alignment with recognized industry best practices
while building resilience and differentiation.
2. BACKGROUND:
Although the history of BIM dates back several decades, it really
Motivation for BIM began in the mid-2000s as
digitalization began to transform construction. To accelerate the
adoption of BIM, since December 17, 2018, the 'Commission

developed together with experts from the construction industry, the series of
PAS 1192 standards that define BIM Level 2. The first of these standards, BS

and training to help organizations integrate and demonstrate the
best practices. Nowadays, a large part of the international focus on BIM
focuses on standards 1192. For example, the Industry Council of the

During the last decade, Peru has been adopting measures
necessary to improve the quality of public infrastructure (transport,
electricity, sanitation, health, education, etc.), with the aim of contributing
to improve the quality of public services provided to the population. Without
embargo, the construction sector is one of the least changed as a result
from the technological boom, maintaining the use of work methodologies
traditional. The different teams and responsible parties that are part of a
investment (engineers, architects, managers, supervisors, contractors), are
used to working each under their own methods, generating that
communication, many times, is not fluid throughout the development of the
investment, causing duplication of work or rework. This causes
loss of time, money, and necessary information, and therefore delay in the
culmination of investments and timely delivery of services to the
population.
For this reason, in recent years, Peru has committed to adopt
initiatives from the public and private sectors to improve the development of the
investments in all phases of the investment cycle. This is proposed through
of the application of collaborative work methodologies, where everyone
investment information should be transparent and accessible to all parties
involved. This is where the need to adopt BIM appears, as a
methodology that allows for the appropriate and orderly management of the
information developed throughout the investment cycle. In that sense, in

Supreme Decree 108-2021-EF, as well as Director Resolution No. 0002-
2021-EF/63.01, which approves the Implementation Plan and Roadmap of
BIM Plan Peru. This document defines the planning for the adoption
progressive BIM in the investment processes of entities and companies
public. One of its strategic lines is the 'Construction of a Framework
"Collaborative", focused on developing a legal and technical framework, with
purpose of supporting and promoting the progressive adoption of BIM in
investments of public entities and companies subject to the National System
of Multiannual Programming and Investment Management.
The National BIM Guide is a guidance document that has been
elaborated with the aim of describing the application of the Data Environment
Common Data Environment (CDE) as a piece
fundamental of the information management process in investments
developed using BIM. Its main reference documents are
the NTP-ISO 19650-1:2021 and NTP-ISO 19650-2:2021, which have been
adapted to the national context and linked to the National System of
Multiannual Programming and Investment Management.

4. IMPORTANCE, CLASSIFICATION AND/OR TYPES
6
One of the most important conclusions reached after delving deeper
in that 'BIM is becoming greater.' This is at least what we can extract from the
5 key points that we will analyze below.
BIM Maturity.
The launch of the ISO standard will complete the consolidation of the BIM concept.
in case there are still some people who have no idea about it. This represents
a progress at the technical level, but it also represents a progress at the strategic level.
It is difficult to demonstrate that no progress in the industry has been integrated.
of BIM methods.
2. Scalability.
In this case, we should say 'BIM is getting bigger' instead of BIM goes
becomes smaller again. It is the most significant point of the standard beginning that
contradicts the pseudo-slogan / reason that 'BIM is only suitable for large
projects.
BIM is applicable to all types of projects. Therefore, in the introduction of
document, the standard "applies to construction assets and projects of
construction of any size and complexity.
Although it is obvious that not all elements are the same, and their structure is released.
for that size and level of complexity. Therefore, the concept of is emphasized
scalability: they must be applied proportionally and adapted to scale and
complexity
Currently, its application in almost all large-scale projects is
has become a reality. However, in the case of 'little BIM', the benefits

guarantee the control of your application. In any case, the structure of the team, the
requirements and objectives must adapt to the characteristics of the project.
3. For everyone:
We believe that another reason why BIM "grew" according to this standard is the
paper and the agent being cited as its receiver.
The concepts and principles of this document apply to all people.
involved in the life cycle of assets. This includes, among others,
owners / operators of assets, clients, asset managers, teams of
design, the construction team, a manufacturer of equipment, a specialized
technician, a regulator, an investor or an end user.
In other words, it highlights the horizontality of information management within.
of the project. It is particularly important to clarify that the management of the methods
BIM and the related information must involve all departments of the
company, more than things that can remain isolated or parallel. For
ejemplo, el modelo BIM es un contenedor de información, y los departamentos
financial, legal or administrative matters should also seek related information
with their tasks in it.
4. Throughout the entire cycle:
Otro concepto extendido en la norma es el ciclo de aplicación. Por lo tanto, en los
main pre-requisites documents, EIR (exchange requirements
information) stipulates the project information requirements (requirements of
8
project information (PIR) and the requirements related to the information of
assets (Asset Information Requirements AIR).
This document applies to the entire life cycle of any constructed asset,
including strategic planning, initial design, engineering, development,
documentation and construction.
As expressed in the following scheme, the project development phase is
localizes as a small part of information management in comparison
with the operation phase, and emphasis is placed on the transition phases (A and C) where
the transfer of information about the project completed or to be completed to
active and vice versa.
Legend:
At the start of the development phase, transfer of relevant information from the AIM to
PIM
B Progressive development of the initial design model in the construction model
virtual
C End of the development phase - Transfer of relevant information from the PIM to
9
AIM Simplified extract of the UNE-EN ISO 19650-1 standard scheme
These transition phases A and C are key points in the process.
The first, A, would coincide in most cases with the development of
building project, where information is extracted from the asset in case of
of the building to be demolished, of the plot, or of the building on which to make a reform,
for example) to be used during the project.
Part C corresponds to the entry of information from the phase of
development of the project towards the operational part of the building, which would coincide with
the delivery of information and/or AsBuilt models.
