Stralis E5 MET Central Failure Guide

This document provides instructions for identifying and diagnosing problems in the MET electronic control unit in Iveco Stralis vehicles. It explains how to check for errors on the instrument panel, identify failures in external lights or wires, and relates error codes to the affected function and location. Additionally, it lists possible causes such as incorrect jump-starting or soldering done on the chassis, and provides diagrams to show the correct method for jump-starting.

CENTRAL MET INCONVENIENCE

Objective
Assist the dealer in identifying any internal failures in the MET Electronic Central.
burn function due to the application of overvoltage (values greater than 32 Volts) applied in the central
electronics.
The MET is an electronic central whose main function is to supply electrical power to the
external signal lights (lamps) present in the vehicle as well as in the implements.

Technical Support
Diagnose

To identify the burning of the boiler, follow these steps:

1. Identify the failure recorded on the vehicle's instrument panel;

2. Confirm the failure presented on the instrument panel using the diagnosis tool.
dealership 'EASY CS' (as per example).

NOTE: Generally, code failures '05' are related to open circuit and '06' are related to a
short circuit.

3. According to the failure identified in Easy, check if there are no external lights burned out (Light of
plate, arrow, brake etc...) or some problem in the vehicle wiring and in the implement wiring
(connection failure, broken wires etc...)

IMPORTANT: After previous analyses, not identifying the problem in any of them, the cause is
an internal failure in the MET electronic central. When this failure occurs, it is signaled on the panel of
it uses the same error codes that we have when the failures of item 3 above are present
they can be identified by codes as below:

Possible causes for the burning of the MET Central:

Incorrect auxiliary start procedure (battery graft)

2. Welding interventions carried out on the vehicle chassis, with battery cables connected, etc...

Below are graphic representations of the incorrect and correct methods for using the resource of
help to leave.

Procedure for starting assistance with an external battery

One of the main reasons for the burning of the MET electronic central is applying overvoltage to it.
It is a common practice that generates this overvoltage to use an external 12 Volt battery connected in series.
with the vehicle's batteries. In this case, the final voltage applied to the central unit can reach 40 Volts
at the moment the vehicle departs and the MET Central was not designed to withstand this voltage value,
due to this fact the burning of it occurs.

Auxiliary Entry: Incorrect method

The correct procedure is to apply 24 Volts (2 batteries of 12 Volts) in parallel with the batteries of
vehicle, thus there will not be a voltage surge in the system.

Auxiliary Entry: Correct Method

Procedure for starting assist with external battery (Used only in conditions
the correct approach would be to recharge both batteries to prevent imbalance or replacements
the same.

NOTE: This auxiliary starting procedure is not recommended by IVECO.

IMPORTANT: As of the publication date of this bulletin, all MET Center that is analyzed and
identified that the cause of the failure is incorrect external intervention which caused the burnout failure
from central, the same will not be granted the guarantee.

This bulletin does not exempt the dealers from their responsibility for analysis and diagnosis.
of the origin of the problem and of any other intervention not provided for in this document.

In case of doubts, it is mandatory to open a ticket on the One Call portal.
