Read the text and answer the questions.

The environment is everything that surrounds us. It is the set of natural elements and
artificial environments in which human life takes place.
In my opinion, man puts it in danger and makes it unlivable for him, wildlife, and plants.
First, the water of rivers and oceans is contaminated and polluted by waste. Moreover, the
smoke from factories and cars deteriorate the air and cause acid rain. Also, some
forests are being destroyed, while trees help combat air pollution.
Finally, animal and plant species, whether terrestrial or aquatic,
disappear from the earth. Our planet is in danger, so everyone must act to protect it.

What is the theme discussed in the text?

2. What is the thesis developed by the author?

How many arguments does the author give to support his point of view?

Cite two (2) of them.

Three out of four children breathe toxic air in

France: what solutions to save them?

YOU NEED TO BREATHE...

Every year, 67,000 people
die because of pollution

are among the most vulnerable.
According to a report from Unicef published

The report is alarming. According to Unicef, which has partnered with WWF France, the network
Climate Action and the association Respire to raise awareness on this issue, three out of four children are
exposed to toxic air in France. A reality that poses a real problem of
public health, as the youngest are very vulnerable to pollution due to their
still immature organism. Asthma, eczema, and even depression in adolescence are part of
numerous pathologies to which they are exposed.

The president of the association shares several pieces of advice to better protect these
children of pollution.

developed by Airparif for Île-de-France, can indeed allow you to choose your
route based on pollution.

When one can take their child to school by bike, there is a real

sidewalk!

If you need to take public transport, prefer air travel (bus

and tramway) than the metro whose air is,à Paris for example, 30 times more polluted than in the
streets of the capital. Are you dropping your children off by car? Remember to turn off the engine. This
will avoid smoking out all the children in the area, including yours.

I will go through the forest, I will go through the mountain.

I can no longer stay away from you.

I will walk with my eyes fixed on my thoughts,

Without seeing anything outside, without hearing any noise,

Alone, unknown, with a hunched back, hands crossed,

Sad, and the day for me will be like the night.

I will not look at the gold of the evening that falls,

Nor the sails in the distance descending towards Harfleur,

And when I arrive, I will put on your grave

A bouquet of green holly and flowering heather.

THE VOCABULARY OF POETRY

37
TYPE OF RHYMES AND THE SONNET
The sonnet is a fixed form poem. It is built on two quatrains and two tercets and
contains a turn, which is the last line of the sonnet, presented as a brief
conclusion or moral highlighting the meaning of the text.

There are 3 types of rhymes: alternate rhymes (AABB), enclosed rhymes (ABBA) and
cross rhymes (ABAB).
Prose poetry has no rhymes, no verses, no precise structure.

The arrangement of the rhymes

A. Alternate rhymes are rhymes that follow each other in pairs (AABB).

Example: I am waiting for spring (A)

For so long (A)
That I will be relieved
When he arrives(B)

B. The crossed rhymes are rhymes that, as their name indicates, intertwine.
(ABAB)
Example: The young lady (A)
Sitting on this bench (B)

She is so confident (A)

That it scares people (B)

C. Embraced rhymes consist of a rhyme trapped between another rhyme (ABBA).

Example: The garden rumors say it's going to rain;
Everything trembles, warned of the impending downpour:

And you who no longer reads, leaning on your book,

Do you mourn the beloved absent one who will not be able to see you?
