You are working as an apprentice engineer in a large civil
aircraft maintenance organisation. You have been tasked to
inspect a hydraulic-power, landing gear and flying control,
Vocational Scenario or
system on an Airbus A380. On completion of the inspections
Context
you are to compile a technical report that justifies how these
systems and their components contribute to safe flight.
Task 1 Using the relevant technical manuals, you have been tasked
with safely inspecting and reporting on the following systems
on the Airbus A380:
Green Hydraulic System
Wing Landing gear
High Lift flight Control System
During your inspection of the systems, you are to take
appropriate photographs that you will use to illustrate your
report.
On completion of the inspections you are to compile a written
report that justifies how these systems and their components
contribute to safe flight as detailed below:
Green Hydraulic System
Your report must include the following:
An explanation of the operation, components, layout
and function of the system and its power sources
under normal and emergency conditions and
considering alternative hydraulic supply sources,
component type and layouts.
An analysis and justification of how the hydraulic
system contributes to the safe operation of the
landing gear and high lift flight controls during the full
ground-air-ground cycle.
Wing Landing Gear
Your report must include the following:

BTEC International Level 3 Authorised Assignment Brief Unit 53 Learning Aim A – Issue 1 January 2020
An explanation of the operation, components, layout
and function of the system and its power sources
under normal and emergency conditions and
considering alternative hydraulic supply sources,
component type and layouts.
An analysis and justification of how the landing gear
system contributes to the safe flight including the
interaction between pilot throttle settings, airspeed,
weight switches and the landing gear extension /
retraction.
High Lift System
Your report must include the following:
An explanation of the operation, components, layout
and function of the system and its power sources
under normal and emergency conditions and
considering alternative hydraulic supply sources,
component type and layouts.
An analysis and justification of how the high lift
system contributes to the safe flight including the
interaction between pilot throttle settings, airspeed,
weight switches and the operation of the high lift
devices.
You will need to ensure that the report is easy to read, well-
structured and uses the correct technical terminology and
any applicable engineering mathematical notations.
Checklist of evidence Technical report using appropriate technical terminology
required Diagrams / graphical representations / photographs as
appropriate
