What are declinations?
When we cast an astrological chart we use a precise locality (birth place) on the earth and from this observation point we take note of
the position of the planets in the sky at the time of birth. These two details enable us to calculate the angles of the chart to the given
locality expressed in longitude. Another point of reference however is the celestial equator (which is the terrestrial equator elongated
into space). Each planet of our birth chart will occupy a certain degree either North or South of the celestial equator. When planets travel
beyond 23°27’ (the maximum distance travelled by the Sun) either side of the celestial equator, be it North or South, they are referred to
as “out of bounds”, the bounds being imposed by the maximum distance that the Sun can ever travel along the celestial equator. OOB
planets found in birth charts are the object of special attention since they are considered “stronger” and capable of expressing their
characteristics in a more explicit and often exaggerated manner. Declination may also connect two or more planets that do not seem
connected by longitude in the birth chart so it’s always worth checking. When two planets find themselves at the same degree on the
equator they are usually considered as conjunct and are to be interpreted accordingly. When two planets find themselves on the same
degree yet in opposite directions (ie.: one South and the other North) they are usually considered as an opposition. Planets heading
North are thought of as being of a more “extrovert” nature while those heading South of a more “introvert” one. Planets at 0° of
