Project XNY Final

PROJECT XNY aims to improve numeracy skills among Grades 1 to 3 students, addressing a proficiency gap where 5.66% of students are not proficient in mathematics. The project focuses on enhancing foundational skills, fostering interest in mathematics, and promoting conceptual understanding through various teaching methods and continuous evaluation. Key activities include remedial instruction, math enhancement sessions, and participation in math-related events, supported by a budget sourced from MOOE, SEF, PTA, and other sources.

Project Title: PROJECT XNY (Excellence in Numeracy in Young Minds)

Problem Statement:
Numeracy is one of the fundamental skills to be acquired by the learners; however, the
school falls short with this skill; as per record, 5.66% (23/406) of Grades 1 to Grade 3 are not
proficient based on the RMA (Rapid Math Assessment). Data for the current school year revealed
Mathematics is one of the subjects with the lowest MPS, alongside with English and Science with
67.51%. This showed that many students in schools today exhibit a significant lack of interest in
learning Mathematics, and this is often rooted in a lack of foundational skills, as students
frequently progress to higher grades without a solid understanding of basic mathematical
concepts. Consequently, they struggle with more complex topics, leading to frustration and
disengagement.
Project Objective Statement:

1. To improve learners’ numeracy skills by 75% through strengthening foundational

mathematical abilities and fostering interest in Mathematics.
2. To promote conceptual understanding through teaching methods that emphasize deep
comprehension and real-world application of mathematical concepts.
3. To monitor and evaluate progress continuously to assess the effectiveness of
implemented strategies and ensure ongoing improvement and success.

Root cause/s:
1. Poor foundational skills in Mathematics
2. Lack of interest
3. External Intervening Factors
