INTRODUCTION AND GENERAL INFORMATION

ABOUT THIS DOCUMENT

This document is intended to provide a level of information that will guide you
successfully on the Installation and basic operation of Peripherals used with the
SD-800 system. The document is written as a complement to the information
(Service/User manual) supplied by the original manufacturer and as a means of
documenting in a practical way the unique interface developed by Philips
Ultrasound for peripherals and their interconnectivity. Although the
manufacturers' manual is not included as part of this document, it is normally
included with the purchase of each peripheral.

In some cases, small but significant adjustments or control settings must be

made to a peripheral product to improve the performance in association with the
SD-800 system. For this reason, purchasing and/or use of peripherals in the field
other than those types and models listed in the PMS CATALOG is discouraged.

The configurations depicted in this document are the most common

arrangements of peripherals that you may be presented with. Please take the
time to read each section so that you, and the customer, may take advantage of
the possibilities that will best be suited for the peripheral combination installed.

SD-800 Rear I/O External Print and Video Source

The availability of the signal for the External Print connector on the Rear I/O Panel is limited and depends
on both the peripheral configuration and the cables installed. This is also true for the External video
source. The cable assembly that is used for either the RGB Internal or RGB Auxiliary has one connector
that is labeled “Trigger 1 (Int) / Color (Aux)” and provides a Trigger signal when connected to the RGB
Internal connector or a Color composite video signal when connected to the RGB Auxiliary connector.
The first table shows the possibilities with just one cable assembly connected to the RGB Auxiliary
connector. The second table shows the possibilities with two cable assemblies using both the RGB Internal
and RGB Auxiliary connectors. The third table shows the possibilities with just one cable assembly
connected to the RGB Internal connector. These tables only show the possible connections provided by
the cable assemblies and do not include the RS232 remote capabilities for the VCR and other Color
Printers. Only two Print keys are supported at one time although more than two peripherals may be
configured for remote printing.
The following table indicates which cable will supply the external Print and Video signals according to the
supported peripheral configuration:
