What is (CERCLA) ?
CERCLA stands for Comprehensive
Environmental Responses Compensation and
Liability Act

This act helps clean up hazardous waste and


toxin exposures and decreases the threat of
other hazardous substances that may be
released

CERCLA was enacted on December 11,1980


How does CERCLA relate to toxins?

CERCLA helps reduce the exposure to toxins.

CERCLA cleans up communities that are contaminated


TOXINS

A toxin is poisonous substance it's capable of causing disease when


introduced into the body tissue
CERCLA is not a toxin its a law act that eliminates the toxic or
hazardous waste with federal money.
Possible Health outcome due to toxins

Short term
The possible health symptoms that certain toxins can be expose you
to are frostbite ,vomiting,growth delays ,rashes etc
Long term
Increase rates of cancer or other chronic diseases
Short term skin irritation.eye irritation, and respiratory or skin
becoming more sensitive

Valley Drums in Kentucky is an uncontrolled waste dump

Groundwater at the site occurs in two aquifers: a shallow


unconfirmed perched aquifer and a deeper confirmed limestone
aquifer.

It took about 40,000 dollars for emergency cleanup.

Funding

The government plays an important role in facilitating the cleanup and redevelopment of
properties contaminated by hazardous substances

The government has an opportunity to evaluate and access public safety needs and promote
redevelopment projects that will protect and improve the health, environment, and economic
well being of the communities

Another legislation that is also connected to this law CERCLA is the RCRA this is another law
that was created as well to manage the hazardous and non hazardous waste.
