Ghana National park or Keoladeo National
park is formally known as Bharatpur bird
sanctuary in Bharatpur, Rajsthan,is a home
to more than 230 resident and migratory bird
species in a protected area of 29 sq km.
The largest Bird reserve in India & is a
UNESCO World heritage site.
It was founded in the late 19th centaury as a
hunting preserve by Suraj mal, the maharaja of
Bharatpur state, and became a bird sanctuary
in 1956. Declared a national park in 1981, it
was renamed keoladeo for the ancient temple
in the park dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva .

Bharatpur is connected with others parts of the
nation by very good roads. One can travel through own
vehicle too.
Geography of Bharatpur Bird
sanctuary:
It is a World heritage site situated in
eastern Rajsthan. The park is 02 km
south-east of Bharatpur & 55 km west
of Agra. The park is spread over approx
29 square kilometers area.
Fauna
Keoladeo is home to more than 360 species of permanent and
migratory birds. During the annual period of migratory visitors
(about October to March), birds from throughout the world can
be found in the park. Among those wintering in the park are
waterfowl from Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, China, and Siberia,
including species such as gadwalls, shovellers, common teals,
tufted ducks, pintails, white spoonbills, Asian open-billed
storks, Oriental ibises, and the rare (possibly extinct) Siberian
crane.
The park is also home to a range of mammals and reptiles—
including pythons and other snakes, deer, sambars, blackbucks,
jackals, monitor lizards, and fishing cats—as well as some 50
species of fish and 25 species of butterflies.

As the Keoladeo national park has a high
density of vegetation, hence the term
‘Ghana’ or thick forest. Bharatpur Bird
sanctuary contains a wide variety of flora
representing 64 families, 181 genera & 227
subspecies. Flora in Bharatpur consists of
different vegetation types.
