Plastic Waste in Soil Brick Production

This document summarizes a project seminar on utilizing waste plastic to manufacture plastic soil bricks. It outlines the materials used - shredded plastic, m-sand, laterite soil, and locally available soil. It describes testing the properties of these materials. The document details proportions of plastic and soil/m-sand considered, and the process of melting plastic, mixing, moulding, and demoulding the bricks. Compression, soundness, water absorption tests on cured bricks will be conducted and results compared to normal burnt bricks.

APPARATUS:
• MOULD [230X100X75mm]
• INDUCTION STOVE
• GAS STOVE
• STIRRER
PROCEDURE:
• Laterite soil, Locally available soil and M-sand passing through
4.75mm sieve and that samples are taken and low density shredded
plastic is used for preparation of bricks of proportion 1:3 and 1:5.
• Proportion considered by weight basis. i.e. 1 kg of plastic and 3kg
of soil/m-sand for one brick.
• First we have to melt the plastic by using tin vessel with the help of
gas stove and electrical stove by heating.
• After plastic melts pour the m-sand or soil sample, and mix it
thoroughly.
• Then the mixture is poured into the mould of size 230x100x75 mm
by tamping of 25 times on each layer,3 layers should be laid.
• After 30 minutes de-mould the sample and allow it set by the room
temperature about 24 hours.

Following tests are to be conducted on cured
blocks (7,14,21days) the tests are as follows
• COMPRESSION TEST
• SOUNDNESS TEST
• WATER ABSORPTION TEST
• COMPARISON BETWEEN NORMAL BURNT BRICKS AND
PLASTIC SOIL/SAND BRICKS.
• AFTER TESTING,THE RESULTS ARE TABULATED
AND DISCUSSED.
