ED 422 Power Point

This document provides examples of classroom activities for grades 3-5 that meet technological standards. It describes activities where students create a newscast about a school event by writing stories, conducting interviews, and editing digitally. Another activity has students produce a digital newsletter by writing stories, interviewing community members, and editing the newsletter. A third activity has students take artwork created during the year, scan it, and create a slideshow presentation.

Classroom Activities to Meet

Technological Standards for

Grades 3-5

With a Review of 2007 ISTE

NETS-S Performance Indicators
By: Carissa Anderson
1. Produce a media-rich digital story about a significant
local event based on first-person interviews. (1,2,3,4)

✏ One activity that I would have my class do is create a newscast about an

event that occurred on campus. Students can write the stories, interview
other students and faculty, learn how to digitally edit their stories and
other content, and then present to the other classes.

✏ Another activity could be the production of a digital newsletter. Students

can write stories, interview local members of the community, upload digital
photos and scanned images and edit the newspaper themselves. Students
could finish by printing their newsletter and passing them out and emailing
them to other classmates.
2. Use digital-imaging technology to modify or
create works of art for use in a digital presentation.
(1,2,6)

(using Power Point or other web- would have my students create
based applications) to present to frames of a story. Next using
the class. digital photo editing software
they could piece together their
frames creating a cartoon to
share with the class.
5. Identify and investigate a global issue and
generate possible solutions using digital tools and
resources (3,4)
✏ I would have my students pick a global issue, say global warming. First I
would have them do internet searches related to the topic, investigating
exactly what global warming is and what the causes are. Next I would have
my students search the internet for what our city is doing to fight the
effects of global warming. After learning what our city does to fight global
warming I would have the students research electronically what we can do
as a class to help. With that research the class may want to start a
composting bin for our class.
7. Conceptualize, guide, and manage individual or
group learning projects using digital planning tools
with teacher support. (4,6)
✏ In my classroom I would first have the students create a class blog, which
they could post daily journals, artwork, and various other class-related
material. Also on that blog I would post the directions for an in-class group
assignment. Students would have to access the blog, get the step by step
directions from my posting in order to complete the assignment. The
assignment would only be in-class so that those without home computers
would still be able to receive full credit. I would also have a class calendar
posted on the blog that I would update daily for parents and students to
access.
