Understanding HSC and HSR Roles

A Health and Safety Committee (HSC) deals with issues affecting an entire organization and helps solve worker issues after consulting a Health and Safety Representative (HSR) or employer. An HSR represents a group of workers and focuses on individual work groups to gather information on potential health and safety issues and resolve them through consultation. The point of an HSR is to have a trained employee representing workers' needs to ensure their health and safety concerns are addressed. HSCs operate at a higher level in medium to large workplaces and deal with issues common to multiple work groups.
