HSC and HSR Questions
What is the point of a HSC
• A Health and Safety Committee deal with issues affecting a whole
organization. They are at a higher level, so will solve worker issues
after they go through their HSR or employer first.
•
They help the PCBU by assisting with health and safety matters,
giving a way for regular and easy meetings. They represent the
workers practical knowledge in their individual jobs which helps
the PCBU’s with an overview of the workplace.
• More common in medium to large workplaces.
• Consult on matters that are the same as and effect several work
groups or workplaces.

What is a Health & Safety Representative (HSR)
An employee who is elected to represent a group of workers health
and safety matters in the workplace. They can instruct and monitor
work of others. Unlike the committee, they focus on individual
workers or work groups. They have responsibilities based in the
legislation so are a serious role. They can be a member of the
committee.
What is the point of a HSR
To gather information on potential issues and find ways to resolve
them by having consultation with a PCBU representatives such as
managers, supervisors or committees . So that the workers can have
someone representing their needs with a trained person.
