Uba Final PPT For Iit

The document discusses soil testing, vermicomposting, and organic pesticide projects being conducted in villages adopted by GLA University under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan program. Specifically, it provides details on [1] performing soil tests using an approved testing kit to analyze macronutrients and pH, [2] preparing vermicompost using the earthworm species Jai Gopal, and [3] making organic pesticides from plant materials and bacteria cultures. Role Performed during Training
Under UBA GLA University Mathura has adopted a cluster of villages
namely (1) Jait, (2) Devi Atas (3) Kunjera, (4) Bhartiya, (5) Sakna.
Technical Knowledge has been provided to the rural areas to solve
their local problems and motivate them to adopt organic farming
practices using natural pesticides and manures.
The following UBA Projects are ongoing in adopted villages:
 Soil Testing
 Training farmers for preparation of Vermi-composte
 Preparation of Organic Pesticide
Soil Testing using DST Approved Kit

Macronutrients Testing

 These nutrients include nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K)
and are most commonly found to be deficient in poor soils.
Mismanagement of these nutrients is not only bad for crop production but
can also be harmful to the environment. Excessive use of fertilizers,
manures and sludges, composts, etc. can lead to groundwater
contamination issues. This is one reason why research into the optimal
use of macronutrients in crop production is necessary and why so much
time goes into researching these vital nutrients.
 The tests are performed using soil test kit
Macronutrients

Phosphorus:- A deficiency of this nutrient can

lead to impaired vegetative growth, weak root
systems, poor fruit and seed quality, and low
yield
Potasium:- Plants deficient in potassium are
unable to utilize nitrogen and water efficiently
and are more susceptible to disease.
Nitrogen:- Nitrogen is essential to nearly every
aspect of plant growth. Nitrogen is absorbed by
plants as nitrate (NO3-) and ammonium (NH4+)
pH:-Soil pH is an indicator of the soil’s acidity which is
a primary factor controlling nutrient availability,
microbial processes, and plant growth. A pH of 7.0 is
neutral, less than 7.0 is acidic, and greater than 7.0 is
alkaline
DST Approved Soil Test kit

Soil Test Kit includes everything we need to perform

tests for each of the following factors: nitrogen,
phosphorus, potassium, and pH (acidity/alkalinity). It
contains test capsules, mixing chambers, dropper, color
comparison chart, pH preferences for over 450 plants and
instructions on how to alter your soil.
Test Procedure

Step-1 clean the soil sampling and make a 20 cm dig. Take 15-20
cm thick layer from its upper surface. Take 15 sample from
different areas of the field and mix and clean it. Now divide the
soil sample in four parts, discard 2 parts. Now mix it and divide it
in two parts and discard 1 continue the process till sample
remains ½ kg. Now sample is ready for testing

Earthworm

A new indian earthworm spicies”Jai Gopal is developed by

IVRI (Indian Veterinary Research Institute).
Jai Gopal (Perionyx ceylanesis) is developed through selection
and mating plan which is better than exotic earthworm Eisenea
foetida, Eudrilus eugeneae with reference to following
characters:
• High fecundity
• Heat tolerance up to 430 C ambient temperature
• Harbour on animal and agro-based
• Voracious feeder
 Very rich in protein (contain 67% protein and all functional
amino-acids).
 Breeding throughout the year except in very low
temperature.
 Act as Bio-reactor to multiply beneficial soil and
decomposition of micro-organisms.
 Superior quality of vermicast and nutriwash
 Long life span than prevailing exotic earthworm species.
 Smallest period of interval from hatchling to maturity.

Organic Pesticides
Organic Pesticides mean:
 No chemicals
 Only plant derived products
 Homemade products
Pesticide Procedure
Composition of Organic Pesticide

• Cow urine – 100 L

 Neem leaves (Azadirachta indica)– 5 Kg
 Arandi leaves (Ricinus communis) – 5 Kg
 Guava leaves (Psidium guajava) – 5 Kg
 Carrot grass (Parthenium hysterophorus) – 5 Kg
 Aak leaves (Calotropis procera) – 5 Kg
 Hukka Tobacco (Nicotiana rustica) – 5 Kg
 Lahsun (Allium sativum) – 2 Kg
 Red chilli/green chilli Paste (Capsicum annuum/) - 2 Kg
• Datura fruit (Datura stramonium) – 2 Kg

• Ginger (Zingiber officinale) - 2 Kg

• Onion (Allium cepa) – 2 Kg

Steps:

1. Mix above components in 100 litre water.

2. For homogenous mixture it will take 20-25 days.

3. After the 20-25 days the mixture will be complete and can be
use as a organic pesticides
How to use
1. Take a 15 litre spray bottle and fill it by 10% pesticides (1.5
litre)
2. After that spray it on the crop
3. Repeat the above steps 4 times in a particular interval to
complete the process
Fig: Organic Pesticides(Prepared)
Advantages
1. It are cheap (They are economical)
2. It are less harmful to the human beings and more effective
against pest
3. It are more stable and can be kept for prolonged period
(Degradation is less)
4. It can be used to control the carriers of vector borne diseases
like malarial, sleeping sickness and dengue fever
Organic Pesticide using Bacteria
culture from NCOF
 It is invented by NCOF (National Centre of
Organic farming,Ghaziabad) under Ministry
of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.

 The solution formed by using this bacteria

culture is similar to the organic pesticides
How to make:

1. First take 2kg jaggery and mix it in 200 litre water

2. Stir the mixture till jaggery mixed in the water
homogenously
3. After that add the decomposer (bacteria) in the mixture and
stir the mixture everyday.
4. The process will be complete in 7days.

Advantages:

1. It is used as organic pesticides

2. It helps in decomposition of waste for organic
fertilizer
Other Activites being carried out
Medical Camp

Under we have organised many medical camps in the

adopted villages in collobaration with District
Administration.
The purpose of the medical camp is to provide free
health check-up and medicine
CONCLUSION
 Soil testing is a key element in assessing the fertility status of
soil and hence can be effectively used for assessing plant
nutrient requirement. Soils differ in their ability to supply
nutrients to plants.
 The organic pesticide prepared by using NCOF Technology
is much more helpful in reducing the hazardous effects of
chemical pesticides and it also increases the fertility of the soil.
