A320 Slats / Flaps
The high lift function is achieved by slats and flaps. There are two
flaps, inboard and outboard, and five slats on each wing, numbered
from wing root to wing tip. The A321 is equipped with double slotted
flaps.
The FLAPS lever selects simultaneous operation of the slats and flaps.
The five lever positions correspond to the surface positions.
2 Slat Flap Control Computers (SFCCs) for slat and flap control.
After take-off , when in config 1+F if the pilot does not select configuration 0 , the
flaps retract automatically at 210 KTS ( Slats remain out )
After take-off flap retraction , configuration
1+F is no longer avialable until the airspeed
is 100 KTS or less unless configuration 2 , 3
or full has been selected previously .
config 2
config 3
Config full
The pilot cannot select an intermediate lever position .
White points - Selectable position
They do not appear when the aircraft is in clean configuration
Blue triangles = Selected position
disappear when the selected position is reached.
Green triangles = Actual position
displayed in amber in case of:
1) both relevant hydraulic systems loss ( except on ground with Eng. stopped )
2) wing tip brakes are on
3) there is a fault in slats or flaps
Flap lever position:
- 0, 1 + F, 1, 2, 3, or FULL indication is displayed .
. Green when selected position is achieved.
Pos ” 0 ” not displayed when clean configuration is achieved
. Cyan when the slats and flaps are in transit
-S ( F ) LOCKED indication appears amber , associated with ECAM caution when
wing tip brakes are applied or when non alignment between 2 flaps is detected.
- A-LOCK indication pulses cyan when the slat alpha / speed lock function is active.
An alpha lock function prevents initiation of slat retraction from position
1 to 0 at a high angle of attack or low airspeed. The inhibition is
removed automatically when the angle of attack is reduced or airspeed
is increased.
S (F) LOCKED
WING TIP BRAKES
Four hydraulically operated wing tip brakes are installed to lock the flaps or slats in
case of asymmetry, overspeed, symmetrical runaway, or uncommanded movement.
The WTBs cannot be reset in flight and once applied , The WTBs can only be reset
on the ground by maintenance action via the CFDS .

FLAP indication:
FLAP indication appears when the slats or the flaps are not fully retracted
- White when selected position is achieved
- Cyan when the slats and flaps are in transit
-Displayed amber in case of:
1) both relevant hydraulic systems loss ( except on ground with Eng. stopped )
2) wing tip brakes are on 3) there is a fault in slats or flaps
