 National Gallery Of Modern Art (NGMA) is located in

Palace Road, Vasanth nagar.


 It is a hub of art activities and a major cultural centre at
Bangalore.
 It showcases modern Indian art and paintings by large
number of modern and contemporary artists.
 NGMA consists of three sections.
 The first section is the locker and the museum shop.
 The second section consists of the two main buildings
where the art is displayed.
 The third section is the auditorium which extends to
an outdoor cafeteria.
 There is a fountain area in between the two buildings
with a garden seating.
 There is an outdoor garden with rock sculptures.
• Thissection consists of art in
the form of pictures captured
by the artist .

• His entire journey as an


artist is portrayed to us
through this section.

• This is one of the largest


sections of the museum
• The display in the museum is on white walls equidistant
to each other giving emphasis to the art over the other
elements
• Movable walls are also an element adding to the display
system
• There are tracks installed in the walls with movable
hooks for the art pieces to hang.
• There are sculptures placed randomly in the entire
space.
 The corridor is 12’ wide with a
railing height of 3’ .
 The corridor has granite
flooring.
 It is a connection between the
two buildings.
 There are ramps running beside
the staircases .
 The podcast
room is
generally
used for
seminars and
panel
discussions
from
NGMA’s
Audio
archives .
 The museum consists of various other sections like the
printmaking ,graphic art and the Bengal school
sections which have a patterned tile flooring and a
gabble roof.
 The graphic art section extends to a balcony which is
above the porch.
LOCKER ROOM AND
MUSEUM SHOP
 Minimal display with good spacing.
 Usage of warm white lights and track lights
emphasizing more on the art.
 Movable walls for changing display’s on frequent
basis.
 Utilisation of open space between the 2 buildings by
keeping it as an open fountain area with seating's.
 Different floorings for every room.
 Huge and tall windows for natural light.
 White walls having more emphasis on the art.
 A small cafeteria/discussion area.
 Cut outs in some building connecting 2 floors.
 The descriptions of the art pieces which were stuck on
the wall were not visible.
 Some descriptions were stuck on the floor.
 No signage.
