Conclusion
What is sample
A sample is defined as a smaller set of data that a
researcher chooses or selects from a large population
by using a pre-defined selection method.These
elements are known as sample points ,sampling
units ,or observation. Creating sample is an efficient
method of conducting research.
Cluster sampling
In cluster sampling researcher divide a population into
smaller groups known as cluster.
Cluster sampling is a method of probability sampling
that is often used to study large population,
particularly those that are widely geographically
dispersed.
Types of cluster sampling
There are three types of cluster sampling
1. Single-stage cluster sampling
2. Two-stage cluster sampling
3. Multiple-stage cluster sampling
01. Single-stage cluster sampling
As the name suggest, sampling is done just once.
A simple random sample of cluster is selected, and data
are collected from every unit in the sampled clusters.
For example- An NGO wants to create a sample of girls
across five neighboring towns to provide education.
Using single-stage sampling.
02.Two-stage cluster sampling
Here, instead of selecting all the elements of a cluster,
only a handful of members are chosen from each
group by implementing systematic or simple random
sampling.
An example of two-stage cluster sampling- A business
owner wants to explore the performance of his/her
plants are spread across various parts of Bangladesh.
The owner creates cluster of the plants.
03:Multiple-stage cluster sampling
Multiple-stage cluster sampling takes a step or a few
steps further than two-stage sampling.
For example- An organization intends to survey to
analyze the performance of smart phones across
Bangladesh.
Steps to perform cluster sampling
Step 1: Defined our problem
Step 02: Divide our sample into clusters
Steps 03: Randomly select cluster to use as our sample
Step 04: Collect data from the sample
Advantage of cluster sampling
Cluster sampling is time-and cost-efficient ,especially
for samples that widely geographically spread and
would be difficult to properly sample otherwise.
Because cluster sampling uses randomization, if the
population is clustered properly, our study will have
high external validity because our sample will reflect
the characteristics of the larger population.
Disadvantage of cluster sampling
Internal validity is less strong than with simple
random sampling, particularly as we use more stages
of clustering.
If our cluster are not good mini-representation of the
population as a whole, then it is more difficult to rely
our sample to provide valid results.
Cluster sampling is much more complex to plan than
other forms of sampling
Conclusion
It can be concluded that cluster sampling survey is less
time consuming, involves less cost, has greater scope
in special coverage and also has greater operational
facilities as compared to complete enumeration
