How do you and the members of your family
spend your Sunday?
Sunday is a day where we spend your time with
family, to slow down and take a break from the
outside work.
Sunday is also a time to thank God for the
protections and provisions He bestowed upon the
family by attending the Sunday Eucharistic
Celebration or Sunday Mass.
Questions:
Who approached Jesus while he was teaching in the temple?
What was the belief of the Jews regarding the causes of
sickness or deformities?
What day was the woman healed?
Did Jesus disobey the Sabbath Law when he healed the
crippled woman? Why?
What was the response of Jesus to the Jewish teacher about healing
on a holy day? Why?
Let’s Start!
● Jesus emphasized that the Sabbath law like the
commandments to love God, cannot be interpreted
without any concern for loving service to one’s
neighbors.
● It was not against the Sabbath law to help people who
are in need. Jesus, Lord of the Sabbath, teaches us that
“The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the
Sabbath” (Mark 2:27).
Let’s Start!
When we do charitable acts to our neighbors, we make
the Lord’s day holy. This means that genuine worship
of God is not to be separated with our loving acts of
mercy toward our neighbors. “It is mercy I desire and
not sacrifice” (Mt 12:7; CFC #909).
Concept Notes:
The Sabbath day is the seventh day for the Jews. The Jews kept this day holy for two
reasons:
Sabbath rest refers to God’s
creative action in Genesis.
This rest is not an absence of work but
God’s new creation which is rest,
something more than a withdrawal from labor
and exertion. God created tranquility,
serenity, peace, and repose.
Sabbath rest commemorates the Israelites’ great
liberation from slavery in Egypt.
For Christians,
• Sabbath stresses a day of liberation with
social dimension. It focuses on helping
one’s neighbors, especially the poor,
disadvantaged, and oppressed thus making
the Sabbath holy
The Third Commandment, which is usually formulated for Christians as
“Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day”.
For Christians, We celebrate this day We also remember the day
because Jesus rose from the Holy Spirit that
Sunday is the the dead on Easter descended upon Mary
Lord’s Day Sunday. and the Apostles on
Pentecost Sunday.
Catholics are to keep Sunday
holy by celebrating the Holy
Eucharist together as a
community.
The Holy Eucharist is essentially
our communal act of worship
of the Lord our God climaxing in
the communal meal with our one
Lord.
It is a prayer of thanksgiving to
God for life and for our
salvation through our Lord
Jesus Christ.
Have you experienced doing good deeds, and you
were reprimanded or scolded because they are
against the rule? How did you feel?

Loving Your Neighbor:
•“Honor your Father and Mother.”
•“You shall not kill.”
•“You shall not steal and You shall not covet your
neighbors’ goods.”
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:
tell that your parents are God’s instrument in creating and sustaining life and authorities
are extensions of God’s authority;
describe your responsibility of respecting and protecting God’s gift of life; and
identify ways on how to show respect for the properties of others;
Let’s Start! (p.1)
Parents/Elderlies Property of Others
Filipinos have always shown deep respect and love for their parents
or elderlies. We use polite words like “po” and “opo” when
speaking to them. We are also taught to respect life.
Our life is God’s gift to us, especially since He
made us in His own image and likeness. As
God’s foundational gift to us, human life must
be respected at all cost.
Our fathers and
mothers are
especially chosen by
God to participate in
His plan of creating
and sustaining life.
We honor God when we
honor our parents
• Life was considered sacred, for life came from
God.
• Respect life for it is a God-given right of each
individual.
• Jesus also forbade unjustified anger and taught
us to control our emotions for they might lead
us into injuring another person.
• Our bodies are to be respected for they are a
gift from God to us
Then God said, “Let us make
mankind in our image and in
our likeness, so that
they may rule over the fish
in the sea and birds in the
sky, over the livestock and
all the wild animals, and
over all the creatures that
move along the ground.”
(Gn.1:26-28). This stresses
how God gave us His
creation by making us its
stewards.

“You shall not kill”.
Prohibits the infliction of injury to or direct attack on human
life. Our life has value and dignity because we are created in
God’s image and likeness. Jesus further added dignity to this
human life when he became man. The Holy Spirit, who is the

that we should not only take care of our things or the things of our
family. We likewise need to take care of the things or facilities that
give service to the public.
