6. Be safe, always follow the safety
protocols.
7. Raise your hand when you would like to
speak in class, when leaving your seat or if
you need to leave the classroom for a reason.

FORCES
GRAVITY FRICTION
• Gravity keeps • Friction is a force that resists
everything on the movement of an object
Earth firmly on sliding against another.
the ground. • It is a force between two
bodies which are in contact
with each other. It stops an
object from sliding against a
surface or another object by
acting in the opposite
direction of the sliding
movement.
•Take for example, a moving car.
When the driver wants to stop the car,
he or she steps on the brakes. The
brakes apply force on tires, causing
friction to slow down and stop the tires.

PRESENTATION
4 Types Of Friction
1. Static Friction
2. Sliding Friction
3. Rolling Friction
4. Fluid Friction
1. Static Friction
is the frictional force that acts between
two surfaces when they are at rest.
Examples of Static Friction:
2. Sliding/Kinetic Friction
is the resistance that is created
between any two objects when they are
sliding against each other.
•Sliding friction is weaker than static
friction. That's why it's easier to slide a
piece of furniture over the floor after you
start it moving than it is to get it moving
in the first place.
Examples of Sliding/Kinetic Friction:
3. Rolling Friction
is the force which resists the motion
between a rolling object and the surface
it rolls on. It is the weakest type of
friction.
Examples of Rolling Friction:
3. Rolling Friction
Rolling friction is much weaker than
sliding friction or static friction. This
explains why most forms of ground
transportation use wheels, including
bicycles, cars, 4-wheelers, roller skates,
scooters, and skateboards. Ball
bearings are another use of rolling
friction.
4. Fluid Friction
is the friction that occurs when objects
move across or through fluids, which
are liquids or gases.
Examples of Fluid Friction:
Friction can be reduced by:
1. Lubricating the surfaces
i.e. using oil or grease wax
2. Use of ball bearings
i.e. replacing sliding friction with rolling friction
3. Polishing the surfaces
i.e. using sandpaper, polisher or wax
4. Streamlining the body
e.g. airplane, ship, rocket, bullet, submarine,
bullet train - their shape
reduces the fluid friction
1. What makes the objects harder to
rub together?
2. What is added to the object to make
it easier to rub?
3. What is produced by friction?
4. Describe how friction happens.
• What is friction?
• What are the different types
of friction?
Direction: Read and understand the questions carefully then write
the letter of the correct answer in your notebook.
