CARPENTRY TOOL

AND EQUIPMENT
ACTIVITY FOR MODULE 5
PREPARED BY: ANGEL P. SAMPAGA
CIRCULAR SAW
Here are the steps on how to check the condition of the equipment which is the Circular saw:
 Circular Saw body should be physically sound and in good condition.
 Switches should be free from damage and properly insulated.
 Fixed guard of machine should be in good condition. (Loose, displaced, corroded not
allowed)
 Auto Adjustable guard should be in working condition.
 Circular Saw Wheel should free from defect, crack, deterioration and rotating capacity
should be marked over it.
 All cable should be free from damage and connection should be allowed through industrial
plug only. (Cuts and joints not allowed)
 Circular Saw should be double insulated or grounded.
 Must use designated key for changing wheel.
 Circular Saw should be operated by experience and competent person.
 Operator should be provided with and using proper personal protective equipment.
 Circular saw wheel in use should be suitable for the material being cut.
Significance of classifying the equipment whether
functional or non-functional.
The importance of classifying the carpentry
equipment is to avoid using the non-functional
equipment that might cause injuries and accidents,
so to avoid those accidents, we should know first
what equipment is functional or non-functional.
Lubricants we can use in Circular Saw:
WD-40 Specialist Dry Anti-Friction PTFE Lubricant

•Pressurized container: May burst if heated.
•Causes skin irritation.
•It can be fatal if swallowed and if it enters the

Cleaning materials or solvent that we can use of during or after
the task in doing carpentry works?
Simple Cleaning Method
With a simple cleaner like Klein’s Multi-Purpose Cleaner-Degreaser it’s easy to clean your
tools after every use.
To get the best results from your tools every time you use them, it’s best to keep them clean
and degreased.  Though some of your tools may require special cleaning instructions.

•Multi-Purpose Cleaner-Degreaser
•Cloth rag
HAND PLANER
How to check the condition of the hand planer?
1.Test the sharpness of an iron by standing it on your thumbnail. If the iron
slides off, it needs sharpening.
2. To sharpen a plane iron, start by applying machine oil to the coarse side
of a sharpening stone.
3. Tilt up the iron until its bevel is flush with the stone. Maintain that exact
angle as you slowly rub the iron across the stone in a circular motion.
4.Check stock thoroughly for staples, nails, screws, or other foreign objects
before using a planer.
