Aircraft Basic Flight Instruments
Aircraft Flight Instruments
Flight instruments are the
instruments in the cockpit of an
aircraft that provide the pilot with
data about the flight situation of
that aircraft, such as altitude,
airspeed, vertical speed, heading
and much more other crucial
information in flight

CLASSIFICATION
OF FLIGHT
INSTRUMENTS
There are three basic kinds of
instruments classified by
the job they perform

There are also miscellaneous
gauges and indicators that
provide information that do not
fall into these classifications,
especially on large complex
aircraft

BASIC
FLIGHT
INSTRUMENTS History
▪ In 1929, Jimmy Doolittle
became the first pilot to take
off, fly and land an airplane
using instruments alone,
without a view outside the
cockpit

Six basic
instruments in
an airplane are
typically
arranged in a
"basic-T"

has changed
over time,

In glass cockpits the
flight instruments are
shown on monitors.
But the display is not
shown by numbers,
but as images of
analog instruments.
