Final Summer Project

This document presents a student project comparing the carbon footprints of households in a local neighborhood. The student defined carbon footprint, collected data through a questionnaire, calculated the footprints using a standard method, and found their family's footprint was 0.44 tonnes of CO2e. The student also analyzed other households' footprints, created a graph, and suggested ways to reduce footprints through energy efficiency, transportation choices, waste management, and sustainable lifestyles. The student advocated for collaborative community initiatives to significantly lower the neighborhood's overall carbon footprint.

INTEGRATED

THEMATIC PROJECT
CARBON FOOTPRINT

By Liviya Arun

• Today, we delve into an increasingly important topic: "Carbon
Introduction Footprint." As environmental concerns rise, it's crucial to comprehend
the impact of our daily choices on the planet. This presentation focuses
on comparing carbon footprints of houses in our locality, highlighting
ways to minimize our ecological impact.
Acknowledgement
I thank my parents for giving me the
resources for completing this project.

I thank my class teacher Ms. Chitralekha for giving

me such a big opportunity of completing this
project.

I also thank our Middle school supervisor Mr.

for providing us with a great project.

Defining the Concept
What is a carbon • Carbon Footprint is the total amount of
greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide
footprint ? (CO2), emitted directly or indirectly by an
individual, organization, event, or product. It's a
measure of our contribution to climate change.
Comparing Local
Household
Emmisions
I worked on comparing the carbon footprints of
houses in my neighborhood and generated a graph
depicting the carbon footprint of my neighborhood.
This approach enables us to evaluate common
factors driving emissions and collaboratively discuss
viable remedies.
Factors Affecting
Carbon Footprint

Identifying Key Contributors

1. Energy Consumption
2. Transportation
3. Waste Generation
4. Lifestyle Choices
Collecting Data
• I gathered data by creating a
questionnaire that highlighted all of
the important elements influencing
the carbon footprint. This thorough
technique delivers correct insights
into my research. The following
questionnaire is included below.

Carbon Footprint Calculation
• Measuring Emissions
I used standard carbon footprint calculation methods to quantify
emissions from energy, transportation, and waste for each
household.
I used a carbon footprint calculator to calculate the carbon
footprint.
Analysis Results
• After rigorous assessment, I discovered that my family's average carbon footprint is 0.44
tonnes of CO2e.
• The carbon footprints of the other five families in my neighborhood are as follows:-

Household Average Carbon Footprint (tonnes of CO2e)

Household A 0.70 tonnes of CO2e.

Household B tonnes of CO2e.

Household C tonnes of CO2e.

Household D tonnes of CO2e.

Household E tonnes of CO2e.

Graph
Reducing Our
Footprint
• Energy Efficiency: Upgrade to energy-
efficient appliances, improve insulation.
• Alternative Transportation:
Carpooling, cycling, or using public
transport.
• Waste Management: Reduce, reuse,
recycle, and compost.
• Sustainable Lifestyle: Opt for plant-
based diets, mindful consumption.
Collaborative Action
• Working Together for Change
Collective efforts can lead to a significant reduction in
the neighborhood's carbon footprint. Let's explore joint
initiatives for a greener community:

 Tree planting campaigns

 Recycling programs
 Community gardens
 Renewable energy projects
 Clean-up drives
 Sustainable transportation initiatives
Conclusion
• Our carbon footprint is an important indicator of our environmental impact.
• Our daily decisions contribute to this footprint, but we may also lessen it.
• We can reduce climate change and preserve a healthy planet for future generations by
implementing sustainable habits.
• Remember that every small step counts, from taking public transportation to decreasing
energy consumption and making informed purchasing decisions.
• Let us join forces to achieve a greener, more sustainable future.
• Thank you for your interest in carbon footprint consumption and its consequences!
