Introduction
⮚ Internet of things (Iot) is an emerging technology which lets humans and things to interconnect
anywhere and anytime.
⮚ It also allows the devices to interact and exchange their data associated with users.
⮚ Our proposed project measures the body temperature and heartbeat of a person using IOT based
integrated healthcare systems.
⮚ The IOT platform used in this project is ThingSpeak.
3
Statement of Problem
⮚ The current system used for health monitoring is the fixed monitoring system, which can be
detected only when the patient is in hospital or in bed.
⮚ Recently accessible systems are huge in size and available only in the hospitals in Intensive Care
Unit .
⮚ Thus, we come to conclusion that we have to design an IoT based patient health monitoring
system that are small and light weight i.e., easily carried while walking and also measures the vital
sign such as heart beat and body temperature .
4
Objectives
❖ General objectives
⮚ To design and develop a low cost Iot based patient health monitoring system that measure the
heartbeat and body temperature.
❖ Specific objectives
⮚ To design mobile, small, cost effective, very easy to use, highly efficient performance, portable
and light in weight patient monitoring system.
⮚ To gain knowledge and insight of designing circuits and assembling the electronics components
as a biomedical technician.

Materials required
1. Arduino uno 6. Temperature sensor (DS18B20 sensor)
2. ESP8266 wi-fi module 7. Resistor (100-ohm,4.7k ohm)
3. LCD display (JHD16A 16×2 LCD 8. Connecting wires (jumper wires)
display) 9. Matrix board
4. Potentiometer (10K)
10. Buzzer
5. Pulse sensor

Arduino
⮚ Arduino is the brain of this project.
⮚ 14 digital I/O pins .
⮚ Operate at 5V and output current of 20mA.
⮚ Arduino collects real time health data from pulse
sensor and temperature sensor

ESP8266 WI-FI Module
⮚ The ESP8266 is user-friendly and
low-cost device to provide internet
connectivity to our projects.
⮚ The module can work both as an
access point (can create hotspot) and
as a station (can connect to wi-fi)
⮚ The ESP8266 module works
with 3.3V only and has 8 pins.

Pulse sensor
⮚ The pulse sensor / heartbeat sensor
measures reasonably accurate pulse
rate of human heart with the help of
a microcontroller.
⮚ It can operate from 3.3V to 5V, but
here we are connecting it to 5V
supply.
⮚ It has just 3 pins: vcc, GND and
signal (analog out).

DS18B20 Waterproof temperature sensor
It has 3 wires:
⮚ Vcc,
⮚ GND
⮚ Data, the data wire must be connected to a pull-
up 4.7K resistor.

LCD display
⮚ A 16×2 display module is employed to display
16 characters.
⮚ LCD has two registers namely command and
data.
⮚ It has totally 16 pins.
⮚ Displays body temperature and pulse rate in
our project.
